Guest Texas Old Car Guy
<!-- google_ad_section_start -->I am restoring a 1922 Buick 6-cylinder Roadster (model 22-6-44) and have entered a contest sponsored by Liquid Wrench to try and win some $ to aid in its restoration. All you have to do is click on the following link and then click the button "VOTE FOR THIS ENTRY" - it doesn't cost you a dime and it might help an old BUICK win this contest. Seems like most of the other entries are for late model pickups or later model Chevys. As far as I can tell I am the only pre-war car entered. I need my Buick Buddies to lend a hand and get Buela into first place!https://www.brickfish.com/pages/phot...69255&scid=636&I bought this car 30 years ago as a "future retirement project" and have had it stored in my barn since 1982; when I bought this barn fresh beauty it still had its Texas 1947 license plate on it and it has been stored in a barn and not started for 65 years. Last year I retired and have disassembled the car and am in the process of restoring it - the engine was frozen and after much effort I finally got it apart. The contest limits me to 700 characters (one small paragraph) to describe my project and only one photo but those of you who have early Buicks know some of my difficulties in finding parts - according to the Buick Club of America there are only three 1922 6-cylinder Buick Roadsters left including mine! I have owned and restored Model A Fords for 40 years and have been spoiled by all the available parts and 1-800 parts dealers - I'm used to dialing 1-800-SENDITTOME and the parts arrive in a couple of days. That sure isn't the case with an early 20's Buick! I have been fortunate to locate three NOS fenders on my 10 trips to Hershey over the past 30 years in anticipation of restoring Buela; I have advertised several times looking for the passenger side rear fender on this forum and also in Hemmings to no avail. The photos below reflect what Buela looked like when I bought her, the second photo is as she came apart, the third is with some of my grandkids "helping" me take it apart and lastly what it should look like when finished (however I'll go with blackwalls as original).I would really appreciate your help in getting this PRE-WAR BUICK into first place! Thanks for your participation!Fred:o<!-- google_ad_section_end --> <FIELDSET class=postcontent><LEGEND> Attached Thumbnails</LEGEND> </FIELDSET> Edited December 2, 2012 by Texas Old Car Guy (see edit history)

Guest Texas Old Car Guy
BCA member?I joined BCA when I bought Buela in 1982 and belonged for several years (BCA member number 13486); did not renew membership in 1988 when I noticed that the Bugle magazine seemed to never feature any pre-war Buicks - got tired of reading about 1970's Riveras and 1969 Electra 225's. I am a Life Member of AACA and have lots of Buick friends. Currently belong to five antique car clubs. The contest rules do not specify that entries must be members of BCA and just thought you might like to help a fellow Buick owner win the contest and get another old Buick back on the road. It would sure be a shame to see a Corvair win!I'm just up the road from you in Georgetown, thanks for your support.Fred Edited November 28, 2012 by Texas Old Car Guy (see edit history)
Guest Texas Old Car Guy
Fellow Buick Fans - she seems to be stuck in 3rd gear (actually 3rd place). Keep pushing!!! Everyone can vote once per day from any iPhone, iPad, home computer, work computer, etc. and each vote counts. Buela has been neglected for 65 years and wants to get out on the road with her other old car buddies. Currently a 1950 Ford and a 1963 Corvair (!!!) are ahead of her. Tell your friends to vote for the 1922 Buick! We have two weeks until the contest ends Dec 28 so vote early and vote often. Thanks,Fred
Guest kaycee
Come on Buela, climb that hill. You're better than some old Ford or Chevy! I voted for you again! kaycee
Guest Texas Old Car Guy
Thanks Kaycee - Just noticed that Buela has moved up into 2nd place nationally today. Keep up the support and she'll be on the road in no time!Remember you can vote once per day from every iPhone, iPad, business computer or home computer and each separate vote counts. Only 12 more days of voting left!Thanks,Fred<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- google_ad_section_end -->
Guest Texas Old Car Guy
Thanks for everyone's support - tomorrow, FRIDAY, Dec 28 is the last day to vote (contest ends at 11:59 pm Pacific Time). Give her one last push and maybe she'll cross the finish line . She has fallen back into 4th place (was in 2nd for a while and 3rd most of the contest period). You are welcome to vote just one more day and maybe the effort will pay off. Part of the judging criteria includes how many comments are posted to their website so not only should you click the button "VOTE FOR THIS ENTRY" but then write a "review" saying whatever you want to say such as "great car, should be restored", or "One of only 3 left and should be saved." Be original and don't quote what I just said exactly - just say something in your own words (it's free and won't cost you anything).Again, I really appreciate all my AACA and Pre-War Buick buddies. I'll actually be relieved when the contest ends tomorrow night so I can get back to the "real world" and work on Buela rather than monitoring a computer. Guest kaycee
Hi Fred, I just voted as did my son in law. Like I said before , worst case senario is saving pennies, looking for more parts, and keeping your shirtsleeves rolled up.Good luck, the best man or, in this case car, does'nt always win. kaycee
Guest shadetree77
Just voted for you again Fred. I was looking at the current top runners. Something screwy about the rankings on there. I don't like how cars that were way down the list suddenly bolt into the top positions overnight. I get the feeling that with so many "variables" in that websites ranking system, the site owners are pretty much free to "manipulate" the results any which way they choose. Otherwise they would have just used a standard voting structure and the car that got the most votes would win. None of this weird "viral" stuff. Good luck Fred but with the strange ranking system on there who knows which car will win?
Guest kaycee
I agree Robert, Liquid Wrench should also have had cash prizes for about the five runner ups , and /or had at least four or five different categories. A bulk of the vehicles in the contest are "newer" or street rods which cater to the younger generation with different tastes and access to a lot more electronic devices than I have, not to say I ca'nt appreciate other types of cars and trucks and the newest electronics. kaycee

Good luck Fred but with the strange ranking system on there who knows which car will win? Robert: Thanks for your help - there are some strange "goings-on" as we approach the finish line; the guy who just passed Buela and is currently in 3rd place has a Trans Am and he only entered the contest Dec 22 and is already in 3rd place; it appears he is spamming the contest with buddies going into the top 5 car's reviews and doing the "thumbs-down" on each of their reviews and "thumbing-up" his own to make his entry look more popular (and ours less so), in effect "sabotaging" the competition. I did have all green positive numbers and after him spamming the reviews I now have several with red negative numbers. Mine shows red -5's and his shows green +13's. Same for the other four out of the top five entries. Everyone but him has negative thumbs down figures. I called the company who is running the contest for Liquid Wrench (who happens to be located in Chicago) saying he should be disqualified immediately and they didn't appear too concerned about his cheating. Guess he fits right in with the Chicago-style of voting. :mad:The guy with the cabover dumptruck currently in first place has some weird voting going on as well; almost all of his votes have come from Australia and I saw where someone flagged his entry saying he was using a "vote bot" software system which votes over and over using some sort of automated computer system. Can't believe there are that many people who want to see him turn a '51 GMC dump truck into a street rod? No sour grapes here, just an editorial comment.Anyway, the contest ends tonight at one minute before midnight (Pacific Time) and we'll just have to wait and see - it might be 30 days before they announce the winner. The contest rules point out that a committee from the contest sponsors (Liquid Wrench) and the social networking company that is running the contest (Brickfish) will evaluate the top 20 finalists and determine the winner based upon the following criteria:40% based upon creativity of the short writeup40% based upon relevance (?)20% based upon popular voteGuess it's like the Presidential elections where the popular vote really doesn't matter and the electoral college will determine the winner. The main thing is to be in the final top 20 to be evaluated. Still think Buela has a good chance since she's a very rare car (one of only three like her left) and she is worth restoring and being brought back to life.Take a good look at the Viral Map (web view) shown on each entry to see where the votes and views are coming from - the dump truck has almost all of his from "other"? Then click on the "geo view" button and you get a world map with lots of dots - click on any dot and it shows how many views and votes from that location. You can zoom in or out to see the entire world - I've been surpised at some of my views/votes coming from almost every U.S. state, plus Russia, Viet Nam, all over Europe, Norway, India, Australia, New Zealand, etc. etc. Pretty interesting! Thanks again to all my AACA friends for helping us reach the finish line! Win or lose, Buela is being restored and I'm hopeful to post some progress pictures along the way.I agree with kaycee's comments as well about at least letting the 2nd place - 5th place winners get something; how about a case of Liquid Wrench? ha As rusty as most of the bolts are on Buela after sitting undisturbed in a barn for 65 years I could use some!Fred Edited December 28, 2012 by Texas Old Car Guy (see edit history)
Guest kaycee
Hi Fred, I just voted again and put in many comments, so I'm hoping that Liquid Wrench takes all these comments into consideration. I mentioned to my son in law today that the least they could do is give the runner ups a case of their product. I'm almost ready to give my partial can of LW to my neighbor although LW probably would frown on me for buying a lot of P B Blaster or acetone and auto trans fluid! I'm not against their product, just their contest criteria? Good luck, and tell Buela that I will come down some day and double clutch her again but do'nt tell her that I live 100 miles fom Chicago! Close as I want! kaycee
Guest Texas Old Car Guy
Kaycee: Again, thanks for all your help. I saw all of the reviews and remarks you posted and appreciate the nudge. Now that the dust has settled, I'm pleased to say Buela came in 4th out of almost 400 entries - they now judge the top 20 finalists and we should be notified who won within 30 days. We fought the good fight; not sure about the guy who came in first who only entered the contest six days before it ended and zoomed to the top - he had buddies downgrade all the other top five finalists reviews and upgrade his own. Several people posted comments about him cheating; strange how his entry (a late model Pontiac Trans Am) had 41,988 views over a six day period which comes out to almost 5 per minute 24 hours per day since he entered the contest and all his votes and views came from Facebook. I'm proud to say Beula got 1016 votes from AACA members and none of the other entries received any AACA votes. Thanks to all my AACA buddies for helping Buela make it into the top five (top 20 will be considered for the first prize). :cool:Have a Happy New Year!!! Guest kaycee
Hi Fred, I'm sure that all AACA and other folks that voted for Buela and you are thankful for your high ranking. Please post the results of this contest and keep pushing on your restoration. I'm sure it'll be rewarding to you and all of us! Happy NEW YEAR! kaycee
