Centurion Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Excellent, Roberta! Please keep us posted on the unveiling of the statue. Very cool to know that David Buick is being honored in this manner in Flint.
BUICK RACER Posted November 27, 2012 Author Posted November 27, 2012 It will be a great media event, and I'll get pictures and links for the news videos. This IS really exciting, and if you come to Flint on the way to South Bend, it's on the agenda. Billy Durant will be lurking nearby, but won't show up til Aug 17!

The Old Guy Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I went by Tuesday as they were unloading the new statue, and was pleased to note that there was a lot of help !!!!
Centurion Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Thanks for the images, Roberta! Can we learn exactly what has been written on the stone base for the statue?
BUICK RACER Posted November 28, 2012 Author Posted November 28, 2012 (edited) Nope, you have to come to Flint and see for yourself.LOL!This statue is a gift to the people of Flint, from the employees and owners of Attentive Industries, Inc. on behalf of Chris “Irish” Coulter. A true example of an American, he was an immigrant, a participant in the 1936-37 Sit-Down Strike, and veteran of WWII. He was a hardworking man and firm believer in Civil Rights and the United Auto Workers. He was, most of all, a loving husband to his wife, Mary, and devout father of seven who always believed in the slogan, “When better automobiles are built, Buick will build them”.I'll get some more pictures next time. I'm down there. Edited November 28, 2012 by BUICK RACER (see edit history)
Centurion Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Great, Roberta! I like the reference to the old Buick slogan.
BUICK RACER Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 Wow, what a day!! Doug Boes (David Dunbar Buick's great grandson) flew in from California. He donated one of the few articles still around that belonged to David, a canon that was used to start the yacht races in Detroit. He is seen here in the picture handing it over the Jeremy Dimick, Curator of the Sloan Museum and Buick Gallery. Lots of other pictures, there hasn't been alot from the media yet. But I'll post the links as they come around.By the way Doug is a BCA member and was here in 2003. He owns a '62 Skylark Convertible 4 speed, that is 'not' stock, it's a driver, he told me.
BUICK RACER Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 Here is what is on the granite under the statue.
