Wow, my kind of car! What a shame, it's in the Buffalo, New York area and I am 1,500 miles away. If I were within a day's drive, I would jump on this car like a flash! The 3-speed stick is so rare in one of these. Anybody coming this way with an empty trailer soon? I'll pay your fuel. This car has got to be saved!

All right, you guys, what can we do to get this car saved in the next 24 hours? It's going to take a group effort. I've got $700 sitting here that I'm willing to spend if someone can store it for me until I figure out transportation to get it to Texas. Stevo? Where are you? I am serious about this. No joke.

I just now called the seller. Car is in Dunkirk, New York, which is halfway between Erie, PA. and Buffalo, NY next to Lake Erie and next to Interstate 90. So who can help me get it moved?????

In communication with the seller, hopefully he will hold the car. I would be glad to send some PayPal money to confirm serious interest (not for me but as a way to save it from the junk man).

It is a cool car with the 3 speed, aluminum head 300 and posi. Use the white 64 I posted yesterday, take the body and interior out of that car.

Pete, John just called me and explained the situation. I'll make a couple of calls and see if i can get somebody to store it. It sounds like it needs to be done right away, will the seller hold it for a little while? I'll give you a call tomorrow when I might know something.

The seller says it can stay for a week or two. I would need about a month before I could arrange transportation. Can anybody get it to South Bend, IN or Toledo, OH to Gary? That would help me a lot--I can do South Bend in two easy days, but N.Y. is three long days. I will put a check in the mail to the seller tomorrow a.m.

As sort of a last resort, we could probably bring it east to CT, but that would just create more hauling problrms later. Besides, it would be tempting to keep it here, and claim it got "lost in transit". Sorry, I missed this over this last evening. I guess I can blame it on the Giants on Sunday Night Football. But, I do not really need another car.

Pete - Good luck with it.

And seriously, I use a hauler with a two car enclosed trailer. So, I will check with him today what he may already have planned along this route to see if he can get it closer for you. Maybe if he is going to the midwest, you could meet him someplace. I will let you know.

I say, keep all the options coming. Not the best choice to go further east by spider sense is tingling that this seller just wants the car gone. As so many do. Thanks John.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm sad to report that this car is badly rusted--so much so, that I'm thinking it may only be good to part out. It's as bad as my '63 Wildcat conv. was five years ago. Rocker panels, floors, body braces, quarter panels, inner fenders, even a spot at the edge of the roof above driver's side window. I would need most of another car to graft panels onto this one. Engine starts right up and runs without smoke, but has a lot of tappet noise as if the left side valve train isn't getting oiled. I think the car has been sitting for several years. I don't know what is keeping the front seat from falling onto the pavement. I did get a lot of nice documentation with the car, including the original invoice, a copy of the cashier's check in 1964 for $3150, owner's manual, and many repair receipts, some from as far back as the 1960s. Car was bought new at Gerwig-Nelson Motors, S. Ashland Avenue, Chicago, Illinois but spent most of its life around Rochester, N.Y. Now I don't know what to do with it and am open to any suggestions. I'm thinking it needs $10,000 of body work to save it. Frame is okay with only surface rust. All glass is good. The left tail light assembly has completely fallen out of the body and into the trunk due to rust all around the areas where it attaches to the rear panel. I don't think the car has ever been wrecked. It's a 300 cu. in. two-barrel with power steering and AM radio. Seat upholstery wear is not consistent with 146,000 miles, but it is the original upholstery. Front end seems fairly tight. Oil change sticker shows 44,000 in 1995. Will try to post some photos.

Does anyone have any good body panels or know of a rust-free parts car to help with this? I hate the thought of parting it out, and the availability of quarter panels and the rear vertical trunk panel might help with my decision. I'm not able to do this kind of body work myself.

Buy the car I had posted prior to this one, which has a very nice interior, good body. I'll try to find the ad.

I know this fellow and tried to buy a Studebaker off of him. I believe I can get him down into the $1500 to $1750 range. I think it's a good deal subject to personal inspection. That interior is very nice and should be a direct swap saving $$$. Body looks nice, car is loaded.
