1942 fluid drive drain?

Hello All,

I'd like to change my fluid drive fluid in the near future. At present it has ATF in it. I'll replace it with 10w which is the same as ISO 32 from what I've read.

My question, from the drawing in my shop manual it appears there is a drain/filler plug. I remove the plug when it's at the top and rotate it until it's 180 out and let it drain? There is a drain hole in the casing to let it seep out. Am I reading this properly? It seems a bit messy. Is it possible to evacuate the fluid from the top using a vacuum pump and suck it out?

As always, thank you in advance.

Don
