jeff_a
Bob,Kind of an interesting article. If Buick went to an earlier logo, I would think that would be good. How about the one on my Grandpa's 1910? If they pay some PR firm to design a new logo, I would think that to be questionable. ----Jeff

NTX5467
When somebody mentions "redesigning" a car company's logo, I get a little gunshy! I remember the disasterous resuslts from the redesigned logo for Oldsmobile! NOBODY knew what it was and did NOT associate the new "masterpiece" with Oldsmobile! Now, if they wanted to do something like add a piece behind the existing emblem which had "red, white, and blue" behind the respective shields, that mgiht be fine AND acceptable.ONE key thing is that at the present time, MANY younger people AND many homeland Chinese already recognize the Buick Trishield just as well as they might recognize the "Lexus L" grill emblem. To me, THAT situation tends to make the whole discussion about somehow changing the Buick Trishield emblem a total waster of time! When they updated the Cadillac logo emblem to what it currently is, it became more bold and uncluttered, but the current Buick Trishield emblem/logo is already that way. Now, IF they wanted to return to the shields with the higher one on the right, angling downward to the left, as it used to be, that could be acceptable as it would still be recognizable as what it is . . . with the "red, white, and blue" as added "dressing" . . . The other thing is that "the kids" will be attracted to "what's behind the grille emblem" (vehicle wise), I suspect, more than anything else.About a month ago, I happened onto a syndicated morning talk show. They were talking about a guy who'd robbed a bank and then did some foolish things to gain notice, which resulted in his ultimate arrest. One of the hosts was mentioning the many things the robber could have done with the money . . . which included . . . "Going out and buying a Lexus that looks like a Buick". And that statement just rolled right off of the end of his tongue, as he continued with his dialogue! I laughed, to say the least, as that's just the opposite of what some might have said in prior times.Yep, the Buick TriShield emblem has "street cred"! It's recognizable, in a good way, by many generations or past, current, and future Buick buyers/owners.Just some thoughts,NTX5467 Edited November 24, 2012 by NTX5467 (see edit history)
Guest Jack Stacey
I don't want them to do what they did to Cadillac's logo. It's ugly now. It WAS at one point, a nice crest. I don't see how they can possibly make the logo better. I like the Trishield as it is.
Guest Skyking
Don't the American car companies know by now not to change anything. Every time they do, they lose sales. Today, people are programed. Change something, and they are confused. The tri-shield is fine.
CheezeMan
They could put some color back into it. Specifically red, white and blue. Vote for your favorite, or submit your own design!..
smithbrother
There is NOT A BIT OF DOUBT in my mind that Buick is attracting NEW customers, many are women, and many somewhat YOUNGER, so personally I'm in favor of change. Maybe subtle will do the trick. I feel the present logo is a tad out of touch, IMO.Dale in Indy

JohnD1956
JUST DON'T MESS WITH THE RED WHITE AND BLUE, tha's all I have to say about it.edit) for right now that isThe red white and blue has been gone since at least 2006. As a matter of fact, if you look fast, the trishield in all chrome is very close to the VW logo of this decade as well. But these lines from the article says a ton about what is driving the rumor mill: "Redesigning a brand logo is an extremely sensitive process that can send enthusiasts and longtime customers into a frenzy. But Buick has been repositioning itself as an attractive choice for younger affluent consumers."So I guess GM is just divorcing all of us old guys who fell in love with the brand and continue to support it, for that 20 year old "professional" in the miniskirt. Looking more and more like my next car will be anything but a new Buick.
smithbrother
Oh John, YOU don't mean that.........Buick is doing a GREAT job, they have a car that will fit your needs/likes. Nothing wrong with Buick hoping to appeal to all ages, and I think they TRULY do want such, they aren't walking away from us OLD guys/gals, IMO. The Old Guy
The powers that be at BMD continue to "mess with success " !! They killed the best engine ever built by Buick ( the 3800) so they might just as well kill the logo

I probably won't buy another new Buick, not because of this issue, but because I'm tired of dealing with drivers today who don't give a rats butt about their car and destroy your car in the process. I bought my 06 Lacrosse with the hopes of keeping that car a long time in it's original condition. So far 3/4 of the car has been repaired and painted due to negligence of others. We did manage to put a scratch on the roof somehow, which used to bother me till 40% of the car had to be repainted. Essentially I am tired of having a vehicle I love and I want a POS that I can crash into others to get even.

My new car was a week old and I was taking a end spot at the far end of the parking lot like most car guys do. So I'm backing up, it's dusk, got my eye on the drivers, passengers, rear view mirror, and TV camera, well there is still a sliver of blind spot in the "C" pillar and I hit a pole. I get out where did that come from?? A camouflage post??? Not painted red or yellow? Nope, painted camouflaged because of the cities beautification committee regulation as I'm told by the restaurant owner. Week later, it's all fixed wife and I going to lunch on the HYW going 55mph a group of wild turkeys run from the shrubbery on the side of the road and take out my ft. bumper fascia. Two incidents and the cars got less than 1,000 miles!

I used it for 3 winters and never worried one bit about getting hit, door dings or whatever. It was refreshing!
60FlatTop
On Tuesday mornings my wife and I go to a little town 8 miles away and have breakfast at a little tin restaurant at the corner of routes 19 and 33 in New York. Check that spot out if you have preconceived ideas about New York, concrete, and sky scrapers. I told her about this article and in particular this quote:"There's people who can look at the badge of a car and know exactly what they are and what time period they're from," said Jeremy Dimick, curator of collections at Sloan Longway's Alfred P. Sloan Museum and Buick Gallery in Flint."On Friday night a Buick Club friend and I were in a deep discussion about when Buick changed from block letters to script on the hub caps. There's one to give old Jeremy a case of the mumbles! Raise your hand if you would have expected a statement like that from a curator of Buick history.I tried to start an automotive museum in Rochester back in the 1990's. Our city is rich in automotive history, just say the name out loud.I found out that to be called a museum or collection and expect to run non-profit you must hire a archivist and related assistants to operate. Yon Saunders of Cadillac fame encountered a situation on a visit to the Cadillac collection. He found a group of young archivists around a large table filled with photographs from....the Cadillac archives. They were trying to figure out what the pictures showed Yon and his friends were able to pic up many pictures and describe exactly the time and situation, much to the amazement of the government required archivists. Now, GM couldn't hire Yon, or you, or me to help preserve this history, we are not qualified.Forum members, the BCA, and the BHA have the details of history. We are the wizards who can divine year, make, and model at a glance. Keep the candle burning.Bernie
Guest Texas Old Car Guy
Well, it's not just the people. Two incidents and the cars got less than 1,000 miles!Helfen: It could be worse . . . a friend of mine was driving from Dallas to Pennsylvania in his brand new Buick a few years ago and spent the night in Washington, D.C. enroute. When they came out of the hotel they found that someone had stolen the luggage they left in the car overnight. They got in the car and hit the highway and when they came to the first cloverleaf/interchange to enter the freeway they heard a loud "THUMP". Howard said to his wife, "what was that?" and assumed he had run over a board or something on the road - the car drove fine so he didn't suspect a flat tire. When they stopped for gas later he discovered a bullethole in the rear quarter panel. They spent the following night in Philadelphia in a hotel and when they came out the following morning, the car was STOLEN! Maybe a few door dings or a damaged bumper fascia isn't so bad after all! Howard decided that the next time he was going to visit his son in Pennsylvania that he would fly.Fred
