Guest Backburner
Thought it was neat that the camera car and the Thunderbird were almost in an accident. That was a great clip.

Ben Bruce aka First Born
Thanks, Wayne. Would be nice for someone to do the same trip today and run the videos side by side. Noticed the smog. Ben
michel88
That was an amazing trip back in time, and it brought back memories of how great american cars were in the fifties. I got my license back in 1960 and that was the way the traffic was back then. Really enjoyable to relive it.
R Walling
I only noticed two pre 49 cars during tje whole vidio. I bet if you took the same ride today, you will find many more pre 49's crusing the drag. Rooney3100
Now that's when America was doing good, I was born 2 years later, I remember seeing some pictures of my Dad's New 1957 Black Ford Crown Victoria, Thanks for sharing the video, if only I could go back into time..........my 1956 Chevy truck would be a year old and I would not have to restore it..........Rooney3100
Dave Gelinas (XP-300)
Judging from the film, people today drive the same way as in 1957.No yielding right of way.Yellow light means go faster.Pedestrians are regarded as in the way.The other driver will cut you off.Passing on the right.Go as fast as you can get away with. The only thing different, No cell phones. However,I still liked the fillm. Edited November 22, 2012 by xp-300 (see edit history)
Guest South_paw
Lots of Cadillacs on that footage. Even a couple of 1956 Eldorados! A rare sight even for 1957, a '56 Eldo Seville and a '56 Biarritz parked front to back. You can see them parked together on the right just after the T-Bird near hit.

Guest quadfins
I sure enjoyed that. It brought back fond memories, as I grew up about 6 blocks from where it was filmed, and my sister still lives right there. I used to roll oranges onto Hollywood Blvd and watch the busses squash them. Great fun for a 6-year-old! One next door neighbor had a 1950 Plymouth, the other ones had a 1960 Eldorado. The man across the street had a '64 Falcon with a paxton supercharger, and my dad had a red '65 Mustang coupe, and I had the red convertible. The main difference that I see is, now the palm trees are taller.Jim Edited November 22, 2012 by quadfins (see edit history)
Guest Kingoftheroad
Cool video, a great look back in time !! I thought that 56 T-bird was gonna get clobbered by the camera car...
MarrsCars
Cool stuff! There was a sibling to my first car right at the beginning of the video, a 1957 Cadillac, but mine was Leghorn Cream not black. I also used to live nearby, a few blocks south in Hancock Park near Melrose and Vine. Most of those shops have changed but it was neat to see Musso & Frank looking exactly the same after all these years. The comment somebody made about people still driving the same way today as they did then was pretty spot on, I guess there has always been a disregard for traffic laws and pedestrian courtesy in Los Angeles! Dave@Moon
notice the foreign cars...maybe only a half dozen....but early in the video, looming large, is a very big (for 1957) VW dealer!
stock_steve
Very cool--even the vintage musical soundtrack.Definitely light on imports for sure. Think I saw a VW microbus parked on the side of the street in one shot, and then a vintage Porsche coming in the other direction in another. Austin Healey darting across the intersection in another scene? Edited November 24, 2012 by stock_steve (see edit history)
