I JUST LOVE THE PICTURE OF THIS BUICK...........

Recommended Posts

I had the opportunity to borrow my sister-in-law's camera recently, to download some photos she took of some of the old cars that participated in this year's "Essex Ed Groundhog Parade" in downtown Essex, Connecticut, that took place on Sunday, January 27th, 2013. She captured a few good shots of a very beautiful 1934 (I think) Buick that participated in the parade. I had to use a bit of electronic photo manipulation for a couple of her shots that were taken in a shady area of a boatyard down near the CT river (to bring out a bit more detail of the car), where the cars were staged before the start of the parade.

And here's also one of her shots that shows the Buick starting to roll along at the start of the parade, with some of the other beautiful old cars that participated.

I took a couple of my own pictures of the parade, and if I can manage it, I'll follow up with one or two of the Buick rolling in the main part of the parade.

Here's a local newspaper article that provides a bit of background about the Essex Ed Groundhog Parade: http://www.theday.com/article/20130116/NWS01/301179740/1006/zip06details&town=Westbrook&template=zip06art

Very nice job by the organizers setting up a really fun outdoor event to enjoy on a mid-winter afternoon!

I was standing up on Main Street for the start of the parade, and took a succession of pictures of the old cars part of the parade as they drove past (technically they are heading the wrong way on this one-way street--obviously for the parade they suspended that rule--you can see that all the pedestrian cars in the background of the shots are pointed in the opposite direction).

Anyway, these are my shots that include that magnificent Buick:

That gorgeous maroon paint job looks a lot richer in the sunlight, right?!

(That '35 Ford that was in front of the Buick was no slouch either!)

I was very pleased to particiapte at the "Branford Festival Classic Car Cruise" held on the rear town green in Branford, CT this past summer--the exact date was Sunday, June 17th, 2012, and took a bunch of photos there, among them were this superb 1973 Buick GS Stage 1.

The owner, who apparently likes to run this beautiful beast at the drag strip, had an action photo and time slip also displayed with the car.

I don't know if it's clear enough in the shots, but he also had a cool & appropriate Connecticut "EA" vanity plate (similar vanity plate, it appears, on the drag racing shot, but looks possibly to have been an NJ-issued registration).

More info about & photos from the Branford Festival Classic Car Cruise 2012 are at: SAAC: The Branford Festival Classic Car Cruise 2012

I was looking thru some pictures from the 2012 Branford (Connecticut) Memorial Day Parade that I took, which was held Monday, May 28th, and noticed that there was a very nice looking late '60s Buick Skylark that participated (I love that pale yellow color!), I think as part of one of the town's civic/service groups (Elks, Rotary, or one of those types of groups). I got one "action" shot from a far distance (that I took thru the windshield of my '60 VW Bug, that I was also driving in the parade).

And then I got one other other quick shot of the rear of the car that I think I shot after the parade ended, and I was driving by where they had apparently parked to disembark some passengers. Looks like a couple of pretty healthy diameter dual exhaust pipes there...

I'll have to keep my eyes open to see if this Skylark shows up again for the 2013 Branford Memorial Day Parade, later this month...

Found these photos on the web.

I saw this '40 Buick at the 2012 Fall Hershey.

The car is stunning.

I am surprised for a car that has had a complete ground up restoration, that the door handles droop.

See the last two photos.

These photos are from this years Amelia Island Concourse.

Mr Earl may have seen it.

The interior is remarkable including the "new " plastics inserts on the interior doors.

Awesome!

I could not find photos of the interior.

The following is from the web site I found the photos from.

"Buick introduced the Model 81C, a four door convertible phaeton, on September 22, 1939. There were only 230 produced. The car sits on a 133-inch wheelbase, it has standard heaters and defrosters and seats six. All 1940 Buicks were delivered with oil filters and sealed beam headlights.

The straight-eight engine displaces 320 cubic-inches and develops 141 horsepower. This car is well optioned, sporting a front bumper guard, fog lights, and a telescoping vacuum antenna.

The current owner purchased this car ten years ago from a body shop in Delaware. The vehicle was in pieces when it was purchased. It underwent a lengthy full frame-off restoration at Prueitt Auto Restoration of Glen Rock, Pennsylvania. This was completed in 2012."

To see the shop and more photos of the car. Click on the link below and click on the tab that reads photos.

The person who showed the car at Hershey is in one of the photos. The tall gentleman standing to the right of the Buick. He is the one with the blond hair and also facial hair. He is also the same person in the drivers seat in the photos below.

From the sublime (^^^) to the ridiculous (?!)...

Saw this funky & kool early '70s Skylark Convertible in I-95 traffic around West Haven thru Branford CT yesterday afternoon (Thursday, May 9th, 2013), and managed to snap a couple of pictures with my travel camera (from the driver's seat of my '03 LeSabre)...

In the second pic. I noticed a souvenir plate on the car's bumper that says Port Washington Long Island. That's not far from me. Interesting.

Here are some color variations of my '52 Dreamin' wallpaper. My wife created these from my original. I like the lighter blue one.
