R W Burgess
Bond, James Bond!<O:p</O:p<O:p</O:pNice little writeup about the new Bond movie, Skyfall (release Nov. 9) in the local Weekend magazine this morning. There was much discussion about the best Bond (Connery), the worse (Moore-“I disagree”), and of course the villains, gadgets, and, how can we leave out the girls? Best-Andress! Worst-Bibi Dahl (don’t even remember her name).Interesting and humorous to me? Gadgets! “Best Gadget! Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger. The ultimate tricked out ride. Accessories include rotating license plates, machine guns behind lowering lights and a passenger ejector seat (useful when the lady you picked up the night before, becomes not as beautiful when daylight arrives…stop it Wayne) The dashboard mapping device predicted modern GPS systems. Its rotating tire slashers inspired the craze for spinny hubcaps (and warnings from Wayne to be careful around my Corvette’s knockoffs! They are not as they appear!), and its ability to lay down a trail of oil and smoke predated the Yugo by 20 years. (since we have recently spoke of the Suzuki automobile problems)"*****

R W Burgess
I will share something else. My best childhood friend's Mom introduced me to Mr. Bond by book. I suggest that she helped me understand the importance of reading as a youth.I look back now and thank her immensely (tears-she passed last year) for helping me learn the joys of reading. Help a young person guys. The dividends are special. Edited November 8, 2012 by R W Burgess (see edit history)
Guest DagoRed
Goldfinger. I remember the day well. The year was 1964 and I was 15. The guys were all abuzz about this movie and I almost got to see it when it just came out. That was until my friend Otto blurted out the screen name of actress Honor Blackman (Pussy Galore) in front of my mom. I watched as my friends walked to town to watch Goldfinger without me.... stock_steve
A couple of years back they had a special display at the Eastern States Exposition (a.k.a. The Big E) in West Springfield, MA featuring the '74 AMC Hornet Hatchback that actually flew the "corkscrew" jump in the '74 Bond movie "Man With The Golden Gun," and memorabilia associated with the technology and planning that went into the stunt. Reference: James Bond car stunt has license to thrill, Astro-Spiral creator W. Jay Milligan Sr. at Big E Friday | masslive.comThat may not have been the first Bond movie I ever saw, but definitely is one that sticks in my memory vividly (for that car stunt). At the time my family was all AMC. I think American Motors was one of their sponsors at the time. I also liked the Matador that flew................ Dave@Moon
So far I've read at least 6 independent advance reviews of Skyfall. Every single one of them used some form of the phrase "best Bond movie ever"!

I keep telling my kids that the new guy just has no personality, kind of like a robot, all machine, no heart. He goes through the motions but does not smile. Not my kind of hero! Remember Charlton Heston in Ben-Hur. I can't remember that far back if when I read the book if all those devises on the car were in the book or were just in the movie? In this affordable model the driver gets ejected;http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/98/1964_Corgi_Aston_Martin_DB5.jpg
