Guest my3buicks
From day one I get this whirring noise when driving from the rear of the car - I have assumed it was the fuel pump. It usually does it but not always, and only does it while driving, not sitting - I have noticed lately the whirring is getting louder to the point of becoming annoying at times.Anyone ever have their Reatta's fuel pump make a variable whirring sound when driving? padgett
Had Fiero's do that (same pump), means the bearings are getting rough, figure on replacing soon.
Ronnie
Just a guess here but... you could have a brake pad slightly worn down to the metal? They make a similar sound to what you describe when no pressure is applied and the car is moving. When you get on the brakes hard you should hear a grinding, squeal or chatter if they get worn badly. Check for a parking brake cable not releasing properly as well. And as Padgett said, it could be a bearing.Whatever parts you will need to fix it, brake pads, bearings, etc. are available in The Reatta Store. Guest my3buicks
Definitely not brakes, not that type of sound plus brakes are all in good shape. This is a definate mechanical variable wharbble whirring sound,
Rawja
You sure it's not a wheel bearing?
Guest reattabry
I would take a look at the rear wheel bearings if the noise is only there while moving it is not likely the fuel pump.Does the noise change while turning like on a curve in the road
Guest my3buicks
No, I have tried the wheel bearing check methods, does not affect the sound. This noise will stop and start at times also.
NCReatta
The power antennas in these cars create a good amount of wind noise.

Guest Corvanti
try it in park and get the rpms up over 3000 for awhile. if you can duplicate the "noise", that would rule out brakes, wheel bearings etc.
padgett
If all else fails check the fuel rail pressure, might be the regulator not regulating and loading the pump. Has MPG gone down ?

smithbrother
Have you changed tooth paste recently. Lots of strange advise, so consider mine, LOL.Dale in Indy
padgett
What I was thinking was that a regulator that is not working properly (we have had a few) could be causing the pressure to rise above normal which would increase the load on the fuel pump. Too high a pressure could also case the injectors to run richer which would affect the MPG. In that case the BLM and/or Instantaneous would be reading under 128 when you hear the pump.Is also why I use only AC Delco fuel pumps, have had an aftermarket pump in a Fiero make that kind of racket from day one but did not affect MPG.
