Piling on the miles : )

Just realized I turned over the 2000 mile mark since I bought the Reatta August 1 - I have been thoroughly enjoying it. I will be putting in away for the winter soon, but will have it close at hand if I want to take it out for a spin on a nice day or weekend.

Im clocking miles too! Diifference is...its the '90 Convertible and Im not even doing the driving! My mate drives it 40mi a day to and from work. Had to force her out of it just to fix dark instrument cluster!!! Major deal just to change the oil!!! But...I suppose I am fortunate to have a CAR gal.....

Yup,

My 88 had 36,500 on it when I purchased it (from the third owner no less!). Right now, it has just passed 43,500 so I've put about 7,000 on it in about a year and a half. Of course, several hundred of that was driving it home from where I bought it. I can say it has become my preferred car to drive on a regular basis. My Caddy is still the second place in terms of miles driven as the 91 Reatta has no A/C (leak in system not yet fixed) and also needs a cam sensor and magnet installed, so it sits except for the periodic short weekend outing until repairs are done.

Dave has the right idea, get a daily driver to keep the miles down n the primo one. I would do this except I cannot justify a 4th car. That, and I could never drive a beater (or even a average car) as I would always be trying to restore it. So, I stick to cars that are in nice shape (not mint, but decent) as it requires a lesser investment to keep them that way than starting from a badly neglected car and trying to build up from there. Many here have tried that route, seems only a few have succeeded based on more that I can recall who finally gave up the cause than ones who stayed the course. Not practical for me to go that route as I am a perfectionist but also lack patience to spend years "getting it right".

For me it would be adding a 5th car - hhmm.

I hear you on a daily driver/beater - I am the same way - I have already done way more to the Reatta than I planned to by this point - and I just got some estimates on having it repainted shortly.

As I don't think the Reatta will be a collectable (at least not for the next few years), unless staring at the car in your garage brings you enjoyment, get behind the wheel and drive. Someone mentioned they own two cars - one as a daily driver and the other as an occasional driver. I adhere to that philosophy and if affordable, is a great idea.

I believe my post was misinterpreted. Both my cars are daily drivers. The Red gets let out in mid April and is driven for 6 months. Then I put it away and drive the Black for the other 6 months. They each get about 15000 miles a year. I use them for business and take the miles. I figure in tax savings both cars are now free.

I put 60,000 miles on my coupe in 4 years...was my secondary vehicle...drove through every state in the continental US. on road trips with my son. Loved every minute of it.....

I too purchased my '90 convertible in early August. I have also piled up about 2,000 miles in the few months that followed. We had an incredible Indian summer here in the Great Northwet so it was a great time to own a convertible. There were also several shows that I just had to take in this year. I don't drive much anymore but it will still be exercised as much as possible even during the winter but garaged when not in use. I am now at 89K miles and counting.
