Beltfed
Have taken delivery of the '38 Zephyr. Have started looking around the car to see what needs to be done. I can't find an oil dip stick anywhere! There is just behind the carb on the driver side a strange tab with a rod reaching into the motor. The tab says 'full' and 'fill'. Can this be a odd form of a dip stick? If so, is it read with the motor running or not? Thanks
peecher
You read it just like a dip-stick...engine cold, not running. Other cars of the era had oil float indicators.
Beltfed
Thanks peecher. Next question...where is the data plate located on the firewall? There is a plate located on the passenger side about half way down. It is completely covered with a repaint and feels smooth (not embossed). Could this be it? Waldren
sounds right Held on with 2 screws and it is embossed. Clean off paint will not hurt the embossing. Le Waldren
John Murphy
There should be two plates on the passenger side of the fire wall. The almost square patent plate held on with 4 rivits and lower and to the left is the rectangular body data plate held on with two screws and embossed with the body series and body serial nimber---like 86H 720 (body style) and "1449" the body serial number." Example would be 86H 720 1440.
