Hello everybody. (my 1. post here)

I just inherited my grandfathers old buick, a 1929 model 27 (it's just like this one 1929 Buick only a LOT more worn)

I'm going to use a long time restoring it, but the main mechanical problem is a tooth in the differential snapped of a lot of years ago.

How do you guys recomend i fix this?

Is parts available? How do i find them? (any webpage that sells this? Did not find much on ebay)

Should i get a new axle? A new diff? New gears for the diff?

A new axle is expensive.

A new diff needs to be adjusted by someone with the right tools

New gears.. Can i just "put them in"?

Best regards from cold Norway

You will need another set of gears. Ideally they need to be a matching set. I would imagine they are going to be very difficult to source in Norway. Keep looking on Ebay something is bound to come up especialy if you are not in a hurry. You might get lucky with a member having a spare.

It's a specialist job to set the new gears up. You can't just bolt them in, there are tolerances that must be met, otherwise ---- dire consequences.

I would answer your general question as to yes, it might be best on the Pre-War forum, as that does adress the Pre-War cars. You shoud also know that there is a quite active Buick Club in Norway that might be able to help, as many have pre-war cars and can help you find parts and contacts. If you are not a members, you should consider joining the BCA. The contact listed for the Buick Club of Norway is PO Box6565, Etterstad 0606, Oslo, Norway. I hope this is of some help for you, perhaps not for the specific rear end parts, but the entire restoration.

Thanks a lot for the tips. I know these things have to be performed by a specialist. Changed to a diff-locker in my old volvo and if was not that expensive to get "a guy" to put it in.

I will contact Buick Club of Norway, maybe someone have something laying around.

Mark Shaw, I can send you more specs when i get the car home and open the diff.
