Guest 61xlch
Hello folksmy gauge panel trim ring is multiple broken, its made of Potmetal. DavidAU
Glue it togeather and take it to a foundry and get them to cast you a new one or take it to an engineering company with CNC equipment that can machine a new one from aluminium.
Guest 61xlch
David:As far as I know its not possible to make such dinky parts with sand mold casting. And high pressure die casting needs expensive molds.CNCing from aluminum would be an option - but lots of $ for a non original part? Difficult decision...Thanks for your input,Andreas
JFranklin
try this. OK so they are showing off. You could maybe have luck soldering it. Edited October 3, 2012 by JFranklin (see edit history)
Friartuck
Andreas,Consider repairing it with special solder product from Muggyweld: Pot Metal Repair and RestorationI have personally used it successfully for pot metal trim repairs. After repair, plate as normal.
Guest 61xlch
The ring is broken everywhere the small retaining screws go in it. So I will have to make new holes exactly at the repaired spots. I doubt this will last long.Anyway, I can try Muggyweld, if this doesnt work I will glue the ring back in place and watch out for another one. Thanks for all inputAndreas
keiser31
The broken pieces look to be hollow. Is there a way to make "dowels" in the triangular shape of the holes and use as reinforcing?

Layden B
Brass or copper tubing fully annealed then rolled to proper cross-section profile then formed to an oval and ends silver soldered. Lots of work but never have to do it again and it would take a fine plating.
