Dave Gelinas (XP-300)
Below is a scan of an original drawing by an unknown Buick/GM Artist. The original drawing is from my collection that I purchased about five years ago from Walter Miller. The drawing was done free hand in colored ink on onionskin paper. The scan does a poor job. The actual drawing is stunning to look at.This artist' conception is of a proposed emblem for the 1958 Buick Roadmaster. In my view, judging from the drawing, Buick was making an attempt to elevate higher in the marketplace the status of the Roadmaster. To bad Buick didn't use it. Very impressive and would have made a great collectible today. Edited September 27, 2012 by xp-300 (see edit history)

Tried, true and tired. For a mid year so called upgrade they decided to go the way of cryptic numerology and designated their midyear creation as a model 75 without the "old fashion" badging of fore gone days of yore. This line of so called futuristic numerology way of thinking continued to morph out of control and by the 1980's became overused to say the least. You are right about this particular badge being a collectable today and by the looks of it, would no doubt be a big hit in all those good-ol southern states. See photos of the Limited Side Panel and Trunk Emblem below.Photos from the web.Yup, The delicate swords were the problem. BTW, 3 days ago you asked for advice with a compass. Guys have been helping with answers. It's considered poor form to ask for help and then not acknowledge it when offered..............Bob
Dave Gelinas (XP-300)
In 1973 Buick used the rendition again. This time much closer to the proposal. See below the 1973 Buick Regal Hood Emblem.

WQ59B
IMO, the '58 Limited emblem is a 'productionized' version of the sketch, just minus the crossed swords. Nicely done, too.

I posted it for info, interest, and to give us all a glimpse of how Buick thought into the future with everything they did.WQ59B You may find the thread I started today of interest.http://forums.aaca.org/f115/what-your-favorite-buick-emblem-336999.html#post1083969
