alini
Does the Transmission have the car serial number on it like the engine? Ive identified that my original engine has been rebuilt once already (bored .040 over). Im still scraping grime off the tranny and wondering how original it might be, so I'm looking for a number to see if its the original.
JZRIV
No VIN on the tranny in 65. VIN matching serial numbers on the trans I know were present in 1971 on the Riv. I don't think before that but not 100% sure. There is a date code cast into the transmission housing at the rear on top which can help you determine if its original. Did you find the tag riveted to the right side? It will have stamped and painted codes. Do not use solvent or harsh chemical to clean this tag or you will remove the paint. This tag will also help detemine correctness and originality.
alini
Too late, the gunk is too thick to not use some sort of chemicals. I'll just have to check the casting numbers
RivNut
No problem, the basic info, codes and year, are stamped into the tag as well.
