Alfa
Hi I have a 1925 tourer and I think I may have a problem with the magneto. The car starts and runs fine on battery, and all the trembler coils are working well. I did have one rebuilt a couple of years ago. The thing is, when I switch to magneto, the engine runs rougher and begins to mis-fire, particularly at low rpm. Switching back to battery makes the problem go away. What is the cause of this? Is it a sign that a magneto rewind is necessary? Can I test for that further? All advice greatly appreciated.Adam..
41 Su8
Remove the mag plug at the top of the hogshead, it may have lint on it from the bands. If there is no lint you may need to have your magnets recharged. There is a procedure for this in the Dyke's manual. Regards, John
Alfa
JohnThank you very much, I will have a look at that. I need to adjust the brake band anyway. Adam..
JFranklin
My car is not running on the mag but I read 25 VAC at the post, so my problem is most likely in the switch. If you have a voltmeter you can check if your mad is working, cleaning it may be necessary anyway. The worst that could happen is you might bust some knuckles or break the terminal.
