Guest PontiacDude210
Recently, I noticed my Reatta making some odd noises. Going over a sharp bump there is almost no noise, but on very small bumps/seams in the concrete, it makes a metallic rattling that goes on for a second after hitting the bump. I cannot find anything loose under the car. Sounds like PS rear. Thanks,-Dave
Guest Corvanti
first thought would be a broken exhaust holder. i had a rubber one crack right in front of the muffler. dropped and loosened the tailpipe a bit.i was able to take it off, glue/epoxy, clamp and put it back on the next day. It is a common problem. The Reatta Store has a brake hardware kit that has been reported to stop the rattle.
Guest PontiacDude210
That may be it. I just had the car on a hoist and could not get it to make the noise for me from any of the heat shields, and the exhaust I just replaced. I have never heard it with the brake applied. How much of a safety concern is this brake rattle? I am thinking of buying a set of slotted rotors and performance pads soon, can it wait until I have the brakes apart anyway, or is it likely to fly off the road and blow up if I don't stop driving it immediately? Ronnie
I don't think the brake rattle is dangerous.
Guest PontiacDude210
Thanks. That almost has to be it. Thinking back on it, I checked every suspension component, every exhaust mount, and every heat shield. I am having a hard time finding the kit you are referring to, the Reatta store is a little bit confusing to navigate(although it may be because I am going on 24 hours without sleep, save 3 hours in the Buick in the college parking lot). Thank you guys so much, I appreciate the help.
NCReatta
Other thing you might check is your rear sway bar. Sometimes the bushing on the end can be bad and lead to a metallic rattling sound.
Guest PontiacDude210
So that would require new sway bar links in the rear?
Guest Corvanti
sorry for being offbase on my 1st thought. i think the sway bar bushings are "nla", but Marck probably has some good ones! if after you check them out and they are ok, then i'd go with Ronnie's suggestion of the brakes... NCReatta
Yup, Corvanti is right. The bushings are NLA, but I do have some good ones. I normally sell the entire sway bar just to prevent any risk of messing up good bushings by removing them.

padgett
I remember a red rubbery spay that went on the back of disk pads but have not seen in a while.

Doug Harness
I had the tires replaced recently on our '91. When I picked it up, I noticed a rattle I hadn't heard before. I took it back and it turned out to be the rear calipers rattling. They had overinflated the tires. Once the tire pressure was right the rattle went away. Guest PontiacDude210
Both tires on the back are a little bit weather checked, could that be it?
Guest Corvanti
doubtful, but rotate the tires, front to back. if that takes care of the problem - there you go!
