Guest Posted November 7, 2001 Share Posted November 7, 2001 Does anyone out here know if the Buick 252 ever came WITHOUT an engine computer (check engine light)It had to have had something but I need to know if any cars were built using this motor but did not have the check lamp.<P>I am concidering a swap into a 79 TR7 Triumph and this whould a make lot less wiring I would have to do.<P>Thank for any responses.<BR>Dave Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Posted November 7, 2001 Share Posted November 7, 2001 The 1980 (first year) motor's shouldn't have an ECM (excpet in California). Export 1981-84 may not have one either.<P><BR>But to make life easier, to convert a ECM engine to a non-ECM, you will only need a different carb and distributor. There are many carb choices. A vacuum advance distibutor from a 1978-80 231 V6 will work with the 252. <P>The 1979/80 exhaust manifolds are much bigger than 1981/84. (They're also the same for 231's and 252's.)
