Guest Orphanauto
I have a 55 Packard Patrician with factory air. The compressor comes on, but there is no presure. Does anyone know a place to have these rebuilt? I am asuming they can be rebuilt. I want as original, no aftermarket modern a/c. Thanks
NTX5467
Might this be the "big cast iron V-twin" a/c compressor that was also used on Lincolns and Mercurys back then, too? If so, there are some discussions in those forums with pictures, from earlier this year, as I recall.Pictures of what you've got?Just curious,NTX5467
NTX5467
I put "Lincoln a/c" in the search window (in the toolbar with "Advanced Search" and the magnifying glass near it) and pulled up the post from TexRiv__ that had the picture of the Lehigh compressor on his '56 Lincoln he'd just bought. There were some other forums with pictures of that brand of compressor, I thought, at the time. When I put "Lehigh air conditioning compressor" in to the search window, it went to 4 posts that were Packard-related.With regard to it not pumping, if it's built like the RV-2 compressors which Chrysler used, then it's got a "reed plate" that works as the "valves" in a normal cylinder head, so to speak. Might also be a clogged or stuck "throttling valve" in the system, too, if it's not a cycling-compressor system. End result, I suspect, is that a full rebuild might be needed for it to work properly AND ensure no metallic debris being pumped through the a/c lines.Just some thoughts,NTX5467
Guest Orphanauto
Thanks NTX5467, it is the Lehigh V type. I may need to have someone check it out better to make sure the problem is what I suspect. It has the Novi condenser in the truck, and the really cool looking tubes in the back window. Well, they are cool, since you don't see that often, not sure if that is cool for any other reason, haha. I'll try to get som e photos and post later, it's raining right now, haha, thanks again. Any other advice from anyone is much appreciated.
