My dad has a Model 70 with an updraft Stromberg OX2 carb. He says it is spitting gas out of it when he tries to start it. The spark plugs are dry. Any ideas where to start and what to start looking for?

I would check the float level and the needle and seat. Also you could send a message to Carbking. Also give us a few more details about the problem like is it starting and spitting gas or spitting gas and not starting. Any info you give will help to diagnose the problem.

Thanks! It is spitting gas out the horn and not starting.

If it is spitting gas out of the carburetor, try a compression test on the engine. If the compression does not find a sticky or burned valve, then check the valve timing. Sounds like you have compression in a cylinder when an intake valve is open.

Thanks! I think he has it fixed but I haven't yet found out what he did. I know at one point he did do a compression test. Seems like you would get a backfire if a valve was open at the wrong time though.
