Guest geoedgerton
I am in the process of wiring my '40 special and have a question about the sockets on the backside of the speedometer. The two sockets on either side are clearly for lights for the instrument and the bottom hole is for the high beam indicator. My question is, does anyone know what the top socket is used for? I don't see anything in the shop manual nor do I find a wire that would be used there. Thanks!George
Ben Bruce aka First Born
George, I had a '40 60 years{Has it really been that long?} ago, but do not remember if I ever had occasion to peer behind the speedometer. Where are the signal light indicators.? Ben
Daves1940Buick56S
My 40 Super actually has 2 Hi Beam indicators, the bottom one illuminating the "Bright Lights" words and a top one illuminating a small red dot.Cheers, Dave
Guest geoedgerton
Thanks for the replies---Dave, I think you have solved my problem and upon further looking I have found another wire with the same marking as the wire for the "Bright Lights" socket. That, undoubtedly, is the wire for the "red dot" you mentioned. George
Dwight Romberger
George, I don't care how Special you are, if you were born in 1940 you shouldn't be wearing a Speedo!
Guest geoedgerton
Dwight, I think I'll take that advice to heart and just stick to my wiring job! It's what I get for being to lazy to type the whole word!
