Blue90 Posted August 14, 2012 Share Posted August 14, 2012 I'd like to replace my old, cheap DMM with a better model. I saw the one in Ronnie's Store but it didn't get such good online reviews. I don't need a pro model, just for home and auto use. Want to spend less than $50. Any one have any experience with the MasTech MS8268 on Amazon for about $25? Any other suggestions?Thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Kingsley Posted August 14, 2012 Share Posted August 14, 2012 No experience with the one you mention but, when out of town recently, had to purchase one and found one by Gardner Bender (GB) selling for around $35.00 or so and widely available at hardware stores. Covers the basic functions well but negative is the lack of an automatic off sysem in case it lies dormant for a while. I am now back with my trust ole Fluke.Kingsleywww.reattspecialtyparts.com featuring two models of headlight crank arms and sun visor clips for the convertibles! Ronnie Posted August 14, 2012 Share Posted August 14, 2012 Thanks for looking on my site for a meter. I appreciate it. Actually the Equus meter in the Reatta Store has a better rating than the Mastech and a lot more reviews. I know nothing about the Mastech but I would be leery of buying a meter that has a $124.50 discount. There is reason for that. Here is one of them:Compare and you decide.
<tbody>
Equus 3320 Auto-Ranging Digital Multimeter by Equus 4.2 out of 5 stars See all reviews (179 customer reviews) | Like (54)
<tbody>
List Price:$34.23

Price:$20.31 & eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping on orders over $25. Blue90 Posted August 14, 2012 Author Share Posted August 14, 2012 Thanks Ronnie, I must say the huge discount over the MasTech (also called the Sino (Chinese) meter list price raised red flags for me. I also try not to buy Chinese, or other foreign-made stuff, if I can. I'll probably go with the Equus (genus for horse) unless someone can show me a better meter.Thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I just picked it for the Reatta Store because I felt it was the best one I could find on Amazon for the money. If someone offers a better Amazon meter for the money let me know and I will add it to the Reatta Store. I didn't add any of the expensive meters, like a Fluke, to the Reatta Store because they are overkill for doing most automotive troubleshooting jobs. NCReatta Posted August 15, 2012 Share Posted August 15, 2012 I bought one from HF for like $35. Still works alright, but the screen on works about 60% unless you press on it. I'm pretty tough on my tools though. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
