Guest BJM
I have not made it all the way through but -That 1950 Roadmaster is awesome. Obviously, it's correct and original but the color of leather and fabric is very interesting to me. It appears a Goldenrod color and light fabric in the magazine. I find that a beautiful almost "custom" appearing detail. OR it could be photos show a different shade then it actually is. **Marketplace: some interesting cars this month. 1939 Century convertible coupe project $8500. What a fantastic car that would be. What a worthwhile and upside car it would be to restore. Not only that but the seller had a 39 Century coupe for $7500 right above it. Anybody have a spare $15K lying around, this would be awesome!1940 Limited Model 91 $4000 One of my favorite cars and very tempting. Not much of a description but has sidemounts. BCA National Site Demos - St Louis and Richmond. I was at the St Louis meet and stayed at the Holiday Inn across from the National site and thought that National site complex was pretty cool. And to look at the photo of Richmond that looked like a perfectly fine motel. I don't get it. I don't think in Europe they have such a disposable bent on buildings/complexs'. jscheib
Jake,I have not seen the Bugle yet, but I think there is quite a few 50's construction in Europe that has been demolished and something else built, if that seems to be the thrust of the article. I think the reason - much post-war construction was build in a rush and with some questionale materials snd design. So it is not a unique US practice. On the other hand, they have a lot of much older buildings that are still standing and in use.John
Guest BJM
JohnI guess I see all the travel shows that show old buildings that have stood for centuries (in Europe) while they tear down convenience stores around here that are 10 years old (and Walmarts). When you get the Bugle take a look at the motel they are tearing down. It still looks modern and decent to me.
Booreatta
Well one thing is for sure we are a throw away bunch. I know there a lot of older buildings on the east coast but as you go west it seems that a lot of them are cast offs. I dont think there are many buildings of any kind that are older than 100 years in Kansas. A lot of them here are not made to last over 25 years or so. There were some old Buick dealerships in the Bugle last year, most of them are something else now. Americans are not very interested in history and thats one reason that stuff gets torn down. Its really too bad in a wayChuck Kerlsbooreatta@cox.net
