Guest 48Ragtop
I have a non-power steering 1957 Chevy. I'd like to add power steering. How hard is this to do and is it best to do with stock components, for example from a parts car, vs. aftermarket kits?
NTX5467
If you get a copy of "Street Rodder" magazine, you'll find many vendors with the parts you might use. A later model GM steering gearbox, the power steering pump, brackets, and hoses. Key thing is the gearbox, though, and it's adaptation to your steering column. If you want to use 1957 Chevy parts specifically, due to the car being judged in a high-level car show by the Tri-Five people (or similar), then using OEM stock components would be necessary. I suspect that'd be a more expensive way to do it, though.Your judgment call.Just some thoughts,NTX5467
Guest 48Ragtop
Appreciate the insight and recommendations. I'm not stuck on authenticity with this as the car is already a non-power steering car from the factory. I simply want to improve drivability. In the future the car could be returned to its' original condition easily - I'll be retaining all original components just in case that ever becomes an issue. I'll check out the magazine as suggested. I'm also communicating with several vendors in Hemmings as well. Thanks, 48Ragtop
rhb1999
There's a company called Danchuks that has all kinds of parts for the Tri-Chevy years. I'm sure they have a power steering conversion kit.

dan at larescorp
Or you could try Chevy 605. They would have a kit that should bolt in. Their number is 281-993-5068.
