Guest BJM
Has anyone ever tried this or seen the 88-90 Reatta wheels polished or chrome plated? Just curious if they can be successfully polished or chromed to add a unique look to the 88-90 cars.

olbuickman
Bjm, I had my stock wheels polished last year. I stripped the clear coat off the centers and the wheels and took the emblems off the centers prior to the polishing. I am pleased the way they turned out. I still have my Lucerne wheels on the car , I like the look.
NCReatta
Bryan,Your best bet is polishing. Chrome plating involves electrically charging the piece being chromed, and as these wheels are aluminum, you'd have a very fun job ahead of you. A place locally polishes the 88-90 wheels for about $700/set. You can do it yourself if you set your mind to it, but the professionals are called professionals for a reason. Be prepared to do a lot of stripping (of the clear coat) and sanding. However, if labor is not an issue than you'll save a lot of money and you'll be happy with the results.Personally, I think polished wheels make out cars look richer & classier. Guest BJM
Thanks. I think in Iowa I would keep a set of wheels for winter driving and a polished set for summer. And yes, I would not attempt, I would have a professional do it.
Guest BJM
In Keiths post, is Reatta Parts West an active forum member? Also, it mentions that they would need attention every once in awhile so some aluminum polish would work hand buffed?
