Guest locoincolo
(forum barfed first time I was writing this, is this typical?)I have the Bob's hood lace kit with the stainless wire and 3 screws/brackets for my 38 special.Reading the 1985 torque tube articles on hood lace is useless to me, they describe a non-wire installation using small screwsand brown paint to cover the screws.I have another reference, from here in the AACA in 2004 that describes the wire weaving in and out of the cowl holes, but this seemsa little odd to me. http://forums.aaca.org/f120/hood-lace-186837.htmlI'm including a picture. The yellow circles show where my three holes are, and also a hook near the bottom. Red lines show where I think thelacing ends, basically at the top and bottom of the hood. Should I simply fill the wire into the lacing, use the brackets to secure it at the three holes, and then use that hook to hold the bottom-most end? Maybe the wire should only extend the length of that groove? And yes, I know she's filthy. Thanks for any help y'all can provide.
Guest Grant Magrath
Hi Craig.Done a couple of cars, and generally, you make a loop or hook in the wire and screw the retainer through it into the top hole. Hold it tight, and screw the next retainer in, and then you should be able to see where you're at with the last retainer, and have an idea of the length. Ideally, you should have some of the old lacing, or at least the old wire to take measurements from, but it's all fairly logical. Guest locoincolo
So is the wire exposed at the top retainer, where you make that first loop?
Guest Grant Magrath
After you make the loop, you push the wire down a bit so the screw goes through the lacing as well. CheersGrant
Guest locoincolo
Thanks Grant, I touched up some of the paint chips in that area tonight, so I'll put the lacing on tomorrow. So much to do!BTW, our Gin and Vodka labels are approved, as are formulas for our White Whisky and Coffee Liqueur. Very close to brewing our firstwhisky wash this Sat, but everything must go very well for that to happen.
