Guest RaverReatta
Well, I have good and bad news. The good is that I got my Reatta up and running!! After all of my efforts with the Magnavox ignition, I said... hmm... I'll take Padgett's advice.. why not? So I bought the Delco ignition off of a scrapped Bonneville and it started in a heartbeat. The bad news... I took it on a "test drive" and my radiator has a HUGE leak in it and the car got so hot that it lost power while driving, and when I got it back to my driveway IT MELTED THE HUBCAPS OFF O_O!!! Thank goodness no wiring was damaged. Anyway the person who sold me the car called and said "oh hey I forgot to tell you that your radiator has a huge leak, I have a brand new one at the house that you can have for free". Wasn't sure whether to be pissed off or extremely thankful, but I went and picked it up and am putting it on soon. My final problems are tires, the instrument cluster, and the fact that the trunk won't open. The tires are a given, but the instrument cluster on the other hand, the warning lights illuminate, but none of the rest works! Relay..? Orrr... new unit? And I have no clue about the trunk. Any input is appreciated!
Guest Mc_Reatta
What year?
NCReatta
What year is your Reatta? My guess with your instrument cluster is that you'll just end up replacing the whole unit. I and several other people here have used units available. Will the trunk not open at all? Or just with the button, or just the key? Trunk wiring systems are different for different year Reattas, if you let us know the year of your car, then we can go from there.
Guest RaverReatta
Mine is a 1990, and I would be willing to buy one soon I'm sure! As for the trunk, it doesn't open period. Not with the key, button, other button, nor from the inside.
Ronnie
It's best to add the model of your Reatta, (and any other relative information), to your signature line. It will make it easier for us to help answer your questions without repeatedly asking you about the specific model you own.Click "Settings" in the menu at the top of this page and scroll down to "Edit Signature"Thanks! There is a spring that helps push the trunk lid out of the latch. It sometimes gives problems and the catch on the lid will not move out of the latch. You can see the spring in the photo below. (Looks like a piece of coat hanger.)
Guest RaverReatta
Nope, not even a click. The wiring could be completely shot I suppose, but anyway, when I try the key the lock will not even turn, so it's almost like it's jammed shut. I just go through the inside to get to the trunk for now. I'll try the spring as well as soon as I go outside. Guest PontiacDude210
Holy cow, someone with Reatta issues worse than mine! I would guess the trunk latch is froze up, you can probably go the redneck way and put the key part way in and shoot some WD40 in beside it, and see if that frees up the lock. Get the can with the little straw on the end and use that to WD the crap out of the lock, then try to turn it until it frees up. If that doesn't work, the linkage between the lock and the latch may be frozen, if I remember right it is a cable you could disconnect and put WD or penetrating oil on as well. If I hath steered thou wrong, I apologize, this is how I've done it on Sunfires for years
Ronnie
There is no linkage between the key lock and the latch. The key turns a switch that energizes a solenoid to release the latch.
Guest RaverReatta
Judging by what you guys have said and by that diagram I would put money on it being the solenoid just being completely worn out and no longer functional. Or maybe the relay. o_o I'm not too worried about it as of yet, eventually I'd like to fix it but for now I won't be toting massive amounts of groceries or other things. My current issue is a speeding ticket of 118 in a 70 that I got just before July 4th.. (proving to your doubtful friend that your Mini Cooper goes over 150 is less important than it seemed) bummer. Anyway, that's put a freeze on the "fix my Reatta" project, at least temporarily. Fingers are crossed that the judge will be merciful since I am attending college and working a full-time job. Not holding my breath though.
DAVES89
Wow! 50 over. Hard to explain that away. Good luck with the judge. Been a loooong time since I went that fast. Now I mostly sit in the right lane at 67 [in a 65] and watch the cars go by. Gives more people the opportunity to see a Reatta! [and Reattas do get looks]
