Went out to start my 91 like I always do on Sundays. Cranks fine - will not fire. I did not hear the fuel pump whine when I turned the key and when the key is just on, it shows low fuel. Put in 7 gallons still shows low fuel. Ichecked the shraeder valve by the fuel rail - nothing there. Ideas? Thanks, Kyle

Thanks, this helps a lot. Ran the 12 volts to the plug - fuel pump must be dead. Guess I am going to have to drop the tank. Are any of the replacement brands better or worse? Thanks again, Kyle

being on a "low budget", i picked up an "airtex" brand from autozone for around $70. works fine.

don't forget to get a new "fuel pump strainer" - they don't come with the pump!

if $$$ is no issue, most would probably say go with oem equipment. ac/delco i think...

here's a thread when i was getting started on my fuel pump: http://forums.aaca.org/f116/fuel-pump-next-list-327104.html

just for the heck-of-it, you might want to loosen the rear line of the fuel filter and see if anything good happens... and also replace the filter!

hope that helps. :)

Ronnie, excellent point, Iknow that at least 7 gallons are in the tank yet I show 1 bar with the low fuel light blinking. I wonder if there is a ground wire coming off the top of the tank from the fuel pump or what. I have zero rust underneath - it was my pictures a couple months ago on the detailed bottom. I am going to get a couple friends of mine to push up my ramps for my lift so I can look at everything. If I do need apump, I will buy it from the REatta Store!

I've been looking at the FSM and I can't determine exactly how the pump and sender for the gauge are grounded. I've not had my tank off. Maybe someone who has will give advice on how they are grounded.

Thanks for supporting Reatta Owners Journal by making a purchase at the Reatta Store. I appreciate it.

in my 89 "final" manual, on page# 8A-14-2, shows "ground distribution: G410" with the fuel tank ground. also, on page 6C-6, shows in Figure 6C-5, part 4, the fuel tank harness. the plug was somewhat corroded on mine and needed cleaning with "CRC QD Electronic Cleaner" after some careful scraping of the contacts...

don't know for sure if it's the same for a '91. also forgot to mention that i believe the 91's have some plastic tubing for gas lines on "top" of the fuel tank.

and please buy parts from ronnie's site whenever possible!!! i was still a "newbie" to Reattae (still am) :o, when i was was replacing my fuel pump, and his site is at a better price than i paid for non-A/C Delco!...

AC Delco pumps are the way to go. I wouldn't wast my time with cheap overseas stuff. I'd rather pay a little more and get the Delco pump rather than buy two cheap pumps and have to pull the tank a couple times to get everything back right.

Once you get the tank out and replace the pump, just play with the float a little on the sender unit. You may can get it to work. If not, I have several good units available.

Ronnie, you actually nailed it - but I reallly dont know why, but it involves grounds. First the qualifiers, no drugs and only 3 to 6 Buds. Went out this afternoon and shook the Reatta side to side and then up and down. Turned the key and a 1/2 tank plus showed on the gauge - turned further and it started right off! Drove 10+ miles shut it off, waited started again like nothing happened. A 1/2 hour later started again. Again , thanks to all - could not have done it without you. I do know that if I do need parts, The Reatta Store is the way to go.

This is way out in left field, again would not have thought of it without your last question. One thing great about this sight is the people that chipped in, Ronnie especially, Corvanti, NCReatta, Iwould be lost without the support. Thank you, all.

well, you made my day! :)

with the reatta, all i can do is say what i've already experienced with my few repairs, steer you to Ronnie's page, another thread on the subject, and information from many repairs on similar problems throughout the years...

"pay it forward" :D
