Need help to identify air cleaner

Recommended Posts

Enclosed are a couple photos's of an air cleaner made by United air cleaner of Chicago. I own a 1926 Dodge with a similar air cleaner but this one is slightly smaller. My question is was this one also used on Dodge brother products, if so what years. Thank-you. Marv

Marv...I can't answer what this one fits (it is a different mounting than the one I believe you have on your "C" motor).Maybe someone else will reply but as far as I know only the "C" motor had this style air cleaner so this one is most likely not DB...only my guess. I have a question....does you original have the mfg. tag riveted to the side like this one?Mine does not have a tag and there are no holes where one would have been attached. Most I've seen (in pics) have the tag. Thanks,Bill

Bill, I have two air cleaners that are the ones used on the Dodge brothers engine, neither have mfg tags on the cover, nor like yours, do they have holes where the tag would be mounted to. Do you remember any details in regards to the mfg tag used by Dodge brothers? One other question I have is what is the function of this type of air cleaner? I can't see it filtering out dust particles from the air going to the carb, but it possibly may increase the air flow to the carb. Thanks for your reply. Marv

Marv,You will see the tag on a/c's on pages 92&94 of the Mechanics Instruction Manual...can't read either. The others I've seen were on vehicles on Ebay, again couldn't read.If you have two w/o tags/holes like mine it would appear that not all had the tags.As for function...I call it a bolder catcher.I believe the internal spinning vain is designed to keep out large stuff like sand, bugs etc.No idea if it works. Bill
