Hi everyone!

This is Simon from Germany, and I'm the proud new owner of a 1983 Buick Riviera ASC Convertible in Red Firemist.

Since in Germany we have a special regulation, I can have my beauty registered as a heritage car next year, when it turns (exactly) 30 years.

Now here is my problem: The original title only says 1983 as the year of manufacture, no month given... I know the officials won't like that. :(

I thought maybe with the identification number I might find out more details (I'd also love to know if the convertibles were numbered, since there were only 3,898 made and which number mine was) but I weren't successful yet.

maybe someone could help me out with that?

The VIN is: 1G4AZ67Y0DE429250

I'd appreciate any hint...

Thank you so much!

Hum, there is a sticker at the end of the drivers door that has tires sizes etc and it will have a month/year of manufacture but it's very possible it is missing or so badly tained with water and such that the lettering has faded. Some titles in the US have the manufacturers date. The VIN will not tell you the date nor the sequence the convertible was produced. You could start with the last state that it was titled in and request a title history which may lead you to many other states to do the same in until you get a copy of the origin of title.

With the VIN, you can order a copy of the original GM invoice. Invoices for Buicks from 1982 and newer are available for a price of $50 each. The invoice will show the options, the shipping date from the factory and the dealer to which the car was originally delivered. Go to:

Yahoo! Small Business: Web Hosting, Domain Registration, E-commerce & Email

to download the form to fill out and mail to Allied Vaughn. This should provide alot of useful information on your Riviera. I got a copy of the original invoice for my 1985 Riviera from them.

Sorry. For some reason the web link that I included with the last reply did not go through.

Search for:

GM media archive

and you will find how you can apply for a copy of your Riviera's original invoice.

Hope this helps.

If you're willing to take a chance and remove the driver's seat, you might find a build seat stapled to the springs on the underside of the seat. I've found a couple of sheets there. The build sheet should also have the dates on it.
