Guest my3buicks
Been casually looking for a white Reatta Coupe ( white/red interior/sunroof) - I happened on this Reatta and wondered if anyone has seen anything like this modifictaion to the hood - or I am assumming it is a modification as I have never seen one with it before - but it sure doesn't look like a car that has had much done to it. Guest Mc_Reatta
If they're functional, should help keep the temp down under there. Not seen this mod before but have seen a single scoop over the air filter area.Does it have standard air filter box or a cone filter modification? Barney Eaton
They appear to be custom functional vents/louvers. The car does not appear to have any other modifications so you must ask why this change?Any chance it has engine modifications? Or maybe the owner works at a place that have a louver press. It would be nice to know why.
KDirk
Very interesting. I'd think it would help cool things off, but the downside is that it will let water/dirt into the engine bay, making it harder to keep clean. One of the nice (unintentional?) side effects of the front end design of the Reatta with the grille in the lower valence is that the engine bay stays amazingly clean with little effort. Since everything goes in low and thus under the engine, the top side always looks good as road grime and such is all directed underneath. Any pics with the hood open? I would like to see if they fashioned a different intake/air cleaner to utilize the left (drivers) side louver, with the right just being there to balance out the appearance. Ronnie
Everyone should take the time to look at DTakas' Reatta. His "Red Devil Reatta" is one nice looking car. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/453067/1989-buick-reatta
Guest my3buicks
I have not personally seen the car - he is to send pictures of the underside and engine - he "claims" that is the way it came and has always been like that.

48Rdmstr68Skylrk
Keith, the only way the louvers are original is if car was a special order for a GM executive. The sticker in the trunk with all the build codes would have something on it if truly original. I know of a white with red interior and sunroof that will be available soon. Let's talk. jonlabree
Picture below shows the hood vents on my car. They are from a GNX (Grand National Experemental) They vent to the rear and work very well. Never had any trouble with water getting on to the engine. (It may be that I drive to fast.) Just standing still with the engine running you can feel the heat pouring out of them.
