tom1954
I have a 1954 New Yorker that I need to take the instrument cluster out of to replace the wiring harness. Anyone ever completed this job? Any hints? The manuals do not help on this project.
keiser31
I have not done this on a '54 New Yorker, but have on a few other cars. The first thing I disconnect is the speedometer cable. That will usually be the thing holding the instruments in tightly after the initial nuts on the rear are off. After that, just mark all of the wires and keep disconnecting. Take lots of "before" photos from underneath before disconnecting anything.
35cz8
Tom, One word of caution. If your battery is still in the car, TAKE IT OUT, just to make sure there is no chance of any hot or live wires. I know this may seem like a no brainer, but I have heard of it happening so better to mention it than to have a problem. Other than that, Keiser is right on with the process. Take your time and good luck on your project.
c49er
If you have a digital; camera I'd be taking lots of pictures before and during disassembly. I have done quite a few old chryslers-1947 Business coupe, 1958 300, a 60 Imperial ect. The digital camera made my work so much easier!
