One Touch paint question. If painting on bare metal do I need to prime the surface??

I have a chromed horn cover for my steering wheel.

The symbol that I want to paint on it is masked off with outdoor sign vinyl and the surface has been scuffed up with a Dremel.

Here is my question... when using One Touch pinstriping / sign paint do I need to put primer on this surface first or will it adhere well without? I haven't ordered the paint yet. Would there be a better brand of paint to use??

The design is on a removable horn cap and not exposed to the elements. It only will be put in when my boat is on display.

(naturally, after painting the symbol the black vinyl will be removed to reveal the chromed horn cap.)

"One Shot" is a brand name for sign painters enamel. Any regular enamel would work for your case. With something small like this I would probably spray it so to eliminate any brush marks. It looks like it has been roughed up a little too much though, unless your looking for a textured finish. All those grind marks will probably show through the paint. You may have to go back and sand it smooth or fill it before painting. Usually on chrome,a light sandblasting or hand sanding is sufficient to hold paint. Then again, maybe it's just the photo! Have fun!

Thanks! I will check out Testor's model paint.

The rough surface is intentional. I think it will look cool.
