Buick Radio Repair

Recommended Posts

Anyone have experience with reconditioning/repairing vintage Buick radios? I have a 1969 Buick Riviera Sonomatic AM unit that has an awful high pitched whining sound that I'd like to get rid of. . .

Looking for information from anyone who has had a similar issue. . .and name of supplier who can reliably service same.

Thanks in advance!

"an awful high pitched whining sound..."

Sounds like a girl I dated in Hish School.

Are you sure that noise is not from the trans?

A high-pitched whine is usually interference from the alternator or ignition.

Thanks Jim. Assuming interference from alternator or ignition, what is the remedy?

I had the radio in my 1950 repaired by Alan Kriss. Great job, reasonable and very knowledgeable. You'll find a lot of positive things about him on this board. I would suggest contacting him.

Anyone interested in contacting Alan, here is his information:

I did a search on local craigslist under vacuum tubes. Found a cool guy that collects ols tube amps and replaced all the capacitors in my 56 Sonomatic and I purchased a new vibrator that I installed myself. Radio ROCKS! Total cost under $40. Hope this helps
