I need a ring & pinon in the ratio range of 3.8 to 4.11 to one. This for the CD8.

rear end is same in some dodge & other chrysler products..

I think they are the same as the cd8. What ratio is the gears. If you can give me the part # on the ring gear, I can check my parts book to determine if it is the right gears.

That probably means pulling the axles and removing it to check the numbers or not?

The ring gear part # is on the outer edge of the gear; it can be seen by removing the rear cover & rotating the gear to locate the #.

Here you go...the numbers are 4.6:1 #309957 dated 3-6-31 and the #11 on the opposite side. The photos are so real looking, I can almost smell the rear end gear oil. Wait a minute.....I CAN smell it because I got it on me.

Thanks for checking the ratio. Its not the one I need; I have a 4.6:1 in my chrysler and want a 4.11:1 or lower gear ratio. Best would be the 3.8:1 ratio.. Thanks, again for spending the time to check your ratio.

I have a ring gear and pinion that came out of the 31 cd8 roadster That my Father bought new. My understanding was that the original rear was torn due to my uncle hot rodding the car and was replaced with one out of a sedan. [ my father had a garage and a junk yard in Maryland ]

A few years ago, someone in the WPC club had a run of hi speed gears produced I signed up for the project and that is now what is installed in the car. It is still under reconstruction.

I just went and looked at the numbers. It reads 4.9.1 #602873 6-14 33-nd. When I drove the car years ago it was smooth. The gears look ok and the bearings on the pinion shaft roll smooth.

I do have a complete rear that I also bought along time ago for a spare. I think it is a sedan rear also.

Supper is on, I have to go. let me know if this interests you.

The 4.6:1 gear ratio is what I now have in the cd8; I am looking for a higher speed gear set ratio of 3.8:1 or even 4.11:1. Are there any of the high speed gear sets still available; thats what I would like to end up with..

Jack,

I may be missing something, so correct me if I'm wrong..

For a rear end gear ratio x.xx:1 means x.xx turns of the drive shaft to turn the drive wheels one complete turn. With that thinking: For a gear ratio of 4.6:1 (being the same as 4.60:1), it takes 4.6 turns of the drive shaft to rotate the wheels one turn; for a 4.11:1 ratio, it takes 4.11 turns of the drive shaft to turn the drive wheels one turn; for a 3.8:1 ratio, it takes 3.8 turns of the drive shaft to turn the drive wheels one turn. Less turns of the drive shaft means less turns (rpms) of the motor, this being what I am looking after. So, a 4.11:1 would slow the motor rpms down from a 4.6:1 and a ratio of 3.8:1 would slow the motor rpms down even more than the 4.11:1..

Am I wrong on this thinking??"

Regards, John P.
