Mark Shaw
Edited from the Portland Chapter May Newsletter...ABS Registration is filling fast. Faster than previous years, anyway. As of May 3, 2012 we have one (1) person pre-registered for our 2012 All Buick Show. Keith and Jeanette Bingham registered their 1953 Roadmaster convertible. Keith and Jeanette have not yet registered for the after-tour but they probably will soon. ABS pre-registration is only $10. There is no additional registration fee for the after-tour. ABS registration after July 15 is $20. If you wait until July 16th to register, you will pay double what the Binghams paid. Do you want to listen to Keith tell you how he got in for half price? Hill no, you don’t. Register early and keep up with the Binghams. Your registration fee includes one barbeque lunch catered by Dickeys BBQ. Dickeys has catered other events at the Weston Buick Dealership and is highly recommended by Jan Weston. In order to assure you the best possible meal, the diligent Dowers have eaten at Dickeys three (3) times, sampling the menu for the best possible lunch items. Kay Dower says they will eat there again before deciding on 2 the final menu. Kay and Arland are barbeque enthusiasts. You can expect a great lunch, thoroughly researched and approved by the sponsor (Weston) and the ABS chair-couple. A barbeque lunch, 100 Buicks and 43 awards for just $10. The Binghams know a good deal when they see it. A copy of the flyer/registration form will go out to folks who receive their newsletter via email and one is available now on the club webpage. Sponsor’s Trophy at the All Buick Show Weston Buick is sponsoring this year’s Best of Show trophy. It will be the biggest, flashiest trophy at the show. So get your Buick in tip top shape and take home the gold. Directors Award at the All Buick Show: The first person to pre-register for the All Buick Show with a BCA membership number lower than Keith and Jeanette Bingham’s will have their registration fee refunded by the Director of the Portland Area Chapter. The winner will be announced at the All Buick Show. You must be present to win.

Arland
Chris was absolutely correct - this is a documented case of brain fade. The All Buick Show is on Saturday, August 18 and the posting above has been edited to correct the date. Now I'll go take my medicine............................ Guest Rob McDonald
I've got some holidays to burn up this summer and am kinda, sorta thinking about a road trip to Portland in August. What can you folks tell me about the All-Buick Meet? I know it's been an annual event for a very long time. How many Buicks show up, usually, and is there more going on than a parking lot show? Mind you, that would be lovely all by itself, considering the brand of cars involved.I know and love the city of Portland because I used to come down for the big swap meet every spring, back in the '80s. Please convince me why I should now come in the summertime, when it's not as likely to be raining the whole danged time. Pictures from previous meets, maybe? My Buick briefly saw daylight a couple of weeks ago. However, it won't be roadworthy any time soon.
Arland
Rob,You are right that August in Portland is a good time to visit. There will be a scenic cruise immediate following the show on Saturday. Jack Gerstkemper is leading the way and his contact info is on the flyer. If you are looking for other car related or tourist attractions, some other locals may chime in here. Hope to see you at the show.

This year's show will be at a Buick GMC dealership wher you can test drive new Buicks!http://www.buickclub.org/portland/Newsletter/Sep2011.pdf
Guest Rob McDonald
MARK, thanks for sharing last's year's event story and photos. Yes, I am coming to the August 18 All Buick show. I won't be driving a Buick to Portland, though - not this time - but my MGB is kind of a distant cousin. You see, there were still Rover 3500s and Range Rovers V8s in the same showroom where I bought my car in 1973. The Rovers (and later MGB-V8s and Triumph TR8s) used the plucky aluminum V8 developed by Buick. Strangely, GM only used it from '61 to '63 in Specials and F-85s. They then sold this great design and its tooling to the Brits, who got another 30 years out of it.Back in the 1980s, I was coming down to the spring Portland Swap Meet at least every other year. The BCA local chapter table was always friendly and accommodating and I made a couple of part-time friends there. I say part-time because we never corresponded except when I was in town for the swap meet. Can't remember any names but one fellow had several '57 and '58 senior Buicks, including a Laurel Mist and Polar White 2-door Limited. Ha! names are lost to me but I never forget a nice colour combo. Mark Shaw
Rob, I look forward to meeting you... Yes I am familiar with the engine you mentioned. I helped a Buick buddy from Wisconsin who came to the BCA National in Bellevue WA & stayed with us before the meet. He boutht a 63 Special convertible with that engine that we picked up after the PWD AfterTour. It stayed in my shop until the transport company picked it up for the ride to Wisconsin. A couple of years later, he let my wife and I drive the car on the PWD AfterTour when the national meet was in Flint MI. We have lots of good stories about loosing the brakes on the tour while trying to lead a lost 29 Buick driver back in the dark.... The strange shift pattern in that model, etc... Lots of good stories to share....
