Guest Dick77 Posted April 20, 2012 Share Posted April 20, 2012 Does the big side of the cylinder face the front of the car or is it the small end? I have seen pictures that show them both ways. I believe the big end is forward but don't know for sure. DavidAU Posted April 20, 2012 Share Posted April 20, 2012 In accordance with the Ford service bulletin No. 2062, The big end of the wheel cylinder faces forward.Not sure if you know but it is advisible to use a torque wrench to tighten the wheel nuts on the 1937 to 1939 Fords with the wide 5 brake drums because as the studs are on the outer edge of the drum they will pull the brake drum out of round if the wheels nuts have different pressure put on them .This more noticable on the 39,s with the hydraulic brake system. DavidAU Posted April 21, 2012 Share Posted April 21, 2012 No. It is difficult to find that in any of the car spec's but the best way is to tighten up a wheel nut as you would normally with a lug wrench then check how much pressure it has on it with a torque wrench. If you have a click type wrench you can do this by starting at a lower setting on the wrench and slowly moving it up until it stops clicking and starts to tighten the nut more then set all the nuts to the same torque.
