Buicks at Charlotte Autofair

For those headed to Charlotte Autofair this weekend April 19-21,the Speedway is featuring Buicks and has assembled a nice collection to represent the brand. They are located in the Pavilion display (Nationwide garage building towards turn 1-2)

Here is the list and a brief description of each. I have seen the display and they look great. I'll get some pictures posted soon hopefully.

1905 Buick Model C

Buick built 750 of the Model C.Engine: 22-horsepower, 159-cid, OHV, horizontally opposed two-cylinder

1922 Buick Six, The Color Purple (1985)

Cars as symbols for family and freedom appear repeatedly in the 1985 film The Color Purple. This 1922 Buick touring car is the last freedom Miss Sophia knows before she is separated from her children, struck by the sheriff, and forced into a life a servitude.

1935 Buick 96s Sport Coupe

This Ambassador Maroon 96s Sport Coupe may be the ultimate expression of Buick as status symbol. Buick built a mere 41 of the model.

1939 Buick Special “The Grand Duchess”

The “Duchess” made history in August at the 25<sup>th</sup> Annual Goodguys West Coast Nationals when it became the first four-door sedan ever chosen as America's Most Beautiful Street Rod.

1941 Buick Super

Of the three Buick convertible coupes offered, the Super convertible proved to be the most popular. An astounding 12,391 were built for '41.

1954 Buick Landau

The '54 Buick Landau was one of those “Motorama” cars. Based on an early production '54 Roadmaster, the Landau used the new for '54 styling, but took a nostalgic look backwards.

1961 Buick Invicta

When Buick debuted the the Invicta line for 1959, the ad men called it “The most spirited Buick.” Enthusiasts called it the “banker's hot rod.” Mild customizations include pin striping, vintage 1960s five spoke aluminum rims, Venus Blue paint – a factory hue redone in modern base coat/clear coat.

1971 Buick GS 455 Stage 1

The lead-footed driving enthusiast could buy a GS convertible, and specify the scariest performance upgrade available, the Stage 1. The car is 1 of 81 GS Stage 1 convertibles produced.

1972 Buick GS 455 Stage 1

Hi-Performance Car magazine named the '72 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 its Top Performance Car of the Year. The '72 GS 455 Stage 1 is one of 728 Stage 1 hardtops built for 1972.

Bobby Allison 1985 NASCAR Busch Grand National Buick Apollo

Veteran racer Bobby Allison, named one of NASCAR's fifty greatest drivers in 1998, started the 1985 Busch Grand National season driving this Buick Apollo at Daytona International Speedway. Built from 1973 through 1975, the Apollo shared the General Motors X-body platform with the Chevrolet Nova, Pontiac Ventura, and Oldsmobile Omega. The X-body cars later became a popular choice for race builds by Busch Grand National owners and drivers. Buick dropped the Apollo name in favor of Skylark in '76, and abandoned the X-body Skylark after 1979.

Brian,

Great job to get these cars assembled at the Auto Fair. Great Cross Section. I am hoping the will be around for the National, as well as a whole bunch more.

A few will be at the National for sure, but some are bringing other cars and some will be put back in the museums they reside in, but we'll either the meet or the Pre-War after tour is going to the museums where they are located.

I got the BCA some TV time this morning. I had to follow a monkey riding a dog, which was pretty awesome, actually. The link below has the video, Buick's start at minute 9:40.

That's former BCA Treasurer and current SE Region Director Jerry Bodden's 41 Super. I doubt it is for sale.

you coulda really used a Reatta too.

I wish the display had a Reatta, A Riv, A GN, A GSX, a 49 Roadmaster, A woody, a '59, etc etc etc. The Speedway assembled the cars, I just helped point them in the directions of ones locally available ones, but several they got on their own.

Well Autofair is over I'll get more pictures up soon, but I thought let everyone know that for the third year running a Buick has one Best of Autofair in the Spring. There are 55 other clubs and I don't know how many total cars, but once again a Buick is the best.

I wish the display had a Reatta, A Riv, A GN, A GSX, a 49 Roadmaster, A woody, a '59, etc etc etc. The Speedway assembled the cars, I just helped point them in the directions of ones locally available ones, but several they got on their own.

Well, everyone will just have to come out to the Nationals then and see everything they missed! :cool:

aaaand, your President did a great job on live radio. He was interviewed during a segment with Dennis Pittsenberger of Hot Rod Magazine Live and did a great job. However, he was replaced at the end with the girl from Lizard Lick Towing! Not sure what that meant....

Yup Steve and I had some a fun interview with Dennis. I honestly had never even heard of Lizard Lick Towing until Thursday morning, but they were real popular so no wonder I was replaced. That and I didn't know Dennis was going to give me a pop-quiz on 1905 Buick Model C engineering!!! :eek:

Great to see you this weekend Steve. It is no coincidence that Buick's have reined supreme at the Spring Autofair...because of the AACA SE Spring National Meet we get a quite a few extraordinary Buicks hanging around Sunday for our event. The AACA showfield always draws some awesome cars and not just Buicks.

I stay around the swapmeet at the Auto Fair and try to catch the Buicks that are for sale back there.I did not see many Buicks for sale this year among the acres of "junk",I did get a few though.

This '69 4dr Skylark had a 455 engine,I liked that.
