Guest Northwestsun
All,Did anyone else see this article on this 14 year old girl (!) restoring a Fiero? Very cool! (Car buffs rejoice as 14-year-old restores vintage Fiero)Reminds me how, when I was 16, I tried to talk my dad into buying me one of the '57 T-Birds the guy down the block had just sitting in his back yard. Now I get to buy my own neat cars, like Reattas!:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:
KDirk
Was talking about this at dinner tonight. A rather cool story, all the more so since old cars are [stereo]typically a "guy" thing. How many 12 year old girls say "I really want a Fiero [of all unlikely choices] and I want to restore it myself!". Heck, the Fiero was out of production long before this girl was even born, making the choice all the more surprising. The Fiero does have it's following to be sure, but seems to suffer from much the same thing our beloved Reatta does: A late 80's GM product that, while admired by some, is maligned by many due to quirks and shortcomings introduced by the bean counters. They just don't get the respect they are due, though it seems that it changing, albeit slowly.Of course, just like those of us who labor to keep our Reatta's going, somebody's gotta do it, right?KDirk
Bushwack
Here's what I'm thinking.Someone needs to play matchmaker and introduce Marck to this girl. If sparks fly, the two of them together could be the next generation that takes over the classic two-seater market.
KDirk
Heh,There's an idea. Actually, I might try to exert some influence on my nephew who just had his first birthday a couple of weeks ago. While there for his party, I sat him down in the 88, and started the light show. Should've seen that reaction - the exaggerated response of kids that age to visual stimuli is most entertaining - I wish I had it on video. Maybe, if despite the challenges of time and expense, I can keep a couple of Reatta's decent long enough, I can set him up in one when he's old enough to drive. 15+ years is a long time though, and no guarantee I'll be able to influence his taste in vehicles such that he'll be interested then. Would be nice to have someone to pass this along to though, as I hate the idea of my efforts at collecting cool old stuff (cars and hi-fi audio gear mostly) going to waste, or just getting sold off due to a lack of appreciation for it.KDirk
NCReatta
Here's what I'm thinking.Someone needs to play matchmaker and introduce Marck to this girl. If sparks fly, the two of them together could be the next generation that takes over the classic two-seater market. Seems everywhere I turn someones trying to hook me up with somebody It's quite the interesting story. I bought two Reattas four years ago when I was 13. If I had had the resources, I woulda gone for it when I was 12. I find it incredibly impressive that she would be thinking that far in advance, and that she would pick something like a fiero.Very cool story maybe one day we'll meet.
