Hard starting problem

Recommended Posts

Hi;On my 52 olds still 6volt,when I try to start it when it is cold the first couple of cranks are very slow and then the starter revs up and it starts. When it is warmed up if I try to start it it barely turns over and wont start.I usually have to wait 20 or 30 min. before it starts.I have had the starter rebuilt, and the car is rewired, also proper battery cables.I have heard it could be the bushings in the starter.Any idea? Thank you Ed

Sure sounds like worn bushings in each end of the Starter creating a drag when warmed up.

You've already stated you have the proper battery cables, but where are you grounded? It's a long path through the frame and engine to the starter, if you ground somewhere on the frame close to the battery.

Get a long, thick battery cable, and ground to a starter mounting bolt. If you're not doing this already, you'll be amazed at the difference it makes.....good luck!

And the winner is all who said I had a bad connection. It turned out to be the battery disconnect switch at the battery.I should know better as I have had this problem in the past on other cars.Thank you Ed
