graydog Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Hi;On my 52 olds still 6volt,when I try to start it when it is cold the first couple of cranks are very slow and then the starter revs up and it starts. When it is warmed up if I try to start it it barely turns over and wont start.I usually have to wait 20 or 30 min. before it starts.I have had the starter rebuilt, and the car is rewired, also proper battery cables.I have heard it could be the bushings in the starter.Any idea? Thank you Ed
Ron of Chicago Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Make sure all your connections are clean and tight.
Tedd Thompson Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 x2 on the connections, sure sounds as though you aren't getting a full load of juice or a bad ground....Tedd

trimacar Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 You've already stated you have the proper battery cables, but where are you grounded? It's a long path through the frame and engine to the starter, if you ground somewhere on the frame close to the battery.Get a long, thick battery cable, and ground to a starter mounting bolt. If you're not doing this already, you'll be amazed at the difference it makes.....good luck!
graydog Posted April 19, 2012 Author Posted April 19, 2012 And the winner is all who said I had a bad connection. It turned out to be the battery disconnect switch at the battery.I should know better as I have had this problem in the past on other cars.Thank you Ed
