Guest
What happened to hvs and four-jaw chuck?
Guest leadfoot
Does anyone care (in a DF way)? Anyway, hvs is still around and strong and 4 jaw had a metamorphisis, but still gets into occasional dustups.
fordee9r (Ron Springstead)
I started a thread that proposed a truce and pointed out that both had their good and bad points. My understanding is that both Howard and Chuck made posts to my thread and reluctantly agreed to allow each other to exist. Unfortunately, before I could get home and read things for myself, PeterG decided the whole issue was getting out of hand and deleted the whole mess.
Since I never had the chance to read for myself, take this info as "heresay" and.... I could be wrong!
Isn't censorship great???
Guest
Not dead, not censored, just learned it's dangerous to have an unpopular opinion. I will read from now on, I hope that is still OK. Is it?
Guest
I'm still here, just trying to be sweet, loveable and non controversial.
What you had with Chuck and me is two strong willed people who say what they think and don't sugar coat it. If Chuck disagrees with me in the future I trust he will not hesitate challanging me, and I'll bet he will grant me the same leeway.
Funny, but these heated exchanges often develop into exchanges of knowledge. But fordee9er was right in pointing out that we let this one get out of hand.
As leadfoot said, "Does anyone care?" Probably not, and why should they. We are just two fish in a very large pond. ~ hvs
Ron: I don't think there was any reluctance on either Chuck's or my part. We called it off willingly and that was the end of. Am I wrong Chuck?
[ 04-04-2002: Message edited by: hvs ]
Guest
HVS is a very knowledgeable person, our disagreement was just that. The world would be a very boring place if everyone agreed. Some "others" decided to make it personal and I obliged by giving them an outlet. I hope it made them feel better. It was a great education in human behaviour in groups.
The "others" don't seem to appreciate my presence or my participation and question my credibility, I will respect their wishes and keep my opinions to myself. Obviously I am not qualified to offer one. After all I am not a due paying member, only a guest-right! Funny, there were no unregistered user remarks in the entire thread.
No big deal, people know where to find me and I still read the posts and enjoy the answers and opinions, but I won't offer one. It's not sour grapes, only reality.
If you ask the doctor why it hurts when you hit yourself in the head with a hammer, he says "Simple, stop hitting yourself with the hammer!". I put the hammer away and hid the nail gun, Cést la vie.
I don't know where the thread went, I didn't ask for it to be removed. It disappeared rather quickly, Cést la vie. Guest
I don't think that anyone should feel that they are not entitled to an opinion. However, good judgement usually goes a long way in these situations. Perhaps we all should use a little self control when voicing our opinions, and try and stick more to the facts at hand. The printed word often fails to convey the true sentiment of the writer.
fordee9r (Ron Springstead)
Part of what was in my deleted post was the fact that both Howard and Chuck are valuable assets to this forum. Both seem to be a wealth of information in various fields and aren't afraid to share it.... along with their opinions and I hope they both continue to do so!
As I recall, that old thread got into trouble when it got to be a question whether an old machinist should display his talents even if it meant rendering a rare cylinder head worthless... at least to OUR part of the hobby. "OUR" is the key word here! Since the AACA is dedicated to preserving automotive history and is the host for this DF, any encouragement of destroying history should be expected to be met with strong resistance on this forum. If not by Howard, there are many other vocal participants who will do so.
So, Chuck, please don't stop voicing your opinions, just stop and think about where you are. I have learned that you seem to be fascinated with all things mechanical, even streetrods. Nothing wrong with that but this is not a streetrod forum! Guest
I have noted that the less a person knows, the more they express their opinion. The SHORT PRECISE answers are the best and usually the most accurate.

novaman
I'm not really sure about what the fuss was all over as I've been away from the DF because of other "duties". Anyways, I know Howard and think he is a great asset to the DF. He is a good guy and yea.. ain't afraid to speak his peace in this great land of the offended. Which I see a good thing. Too much political correctness going on in the world.
As for Chuck, I don't know him but is the short time he has been here, before I got "side tracked", I took a liking to reading his posts. They made me think about areas of the hobby I hadn't thought about. He gave some good advice on how to do things. I hate the thought of losing his posts on here.
The biggest problem with the DF is not being able to read the body langauge, facial expressions and hear the tone of voice that you can if you are talking in person. Everyone needs to ease up a little when something is posted that you don't agree with. Like, I said I don't fully understand what happened so consider this advice to everyone.
