Trying to Establish Value of Ward LaFrance Fire Truck

Recommended Posts

A friend just asked me to help her find the value of a 1957 Ward LaFrance 85-T fire truck that has been sitting in a building her family has owned for 20+ years. They just decided to sell it. She told me it looks good. I asked her for pictures and a few other general questions and am waiting for her reply.

Are there any websites that cater to buying and selling old fire apparatus? Any other recommendations for getting an idea of what it's worth? All suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

If the unit isn't running try to convince her to spend enough to at least fire it up and see if it'll pull itself back and forth in the driveway... "sitting for 20 yrs", and not at least moving itself, will not bring very good offers.

Also, this's not the best market to sell into; the problem being, of course, whether the market will get worse or slowly improve...

A friend bought a 56 F750 Americian LaFrance firetruck for $2500.

Got it home and it started and drives well.

He figured that the Ford cab was worth about $2000 alone. It is like brand new.

There is only one small spot of rust on the side of the body. (3/4')

This site lists a 57 for $3000

Hello, Harold.

Our AACA Library & Research Center in Hershey houses various materials belonging to quite a few clubs. One of which is the SPAAMFAA (Society for the Preservation & Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus in America).

Quite a collection I might add. You or your friend may want to contact our Librarian, Mr. Chris Ritter who may be able to give you a contact within the SPAAMFAA for an opinion. Worth a try.

Harold, Tom Laferriere deals in these and is pretty knowledgeable. If she is interested in selling she may even want to have him handle it, he usually has a couple hanging around...
