Guest
Please, is there anyone that can help me with my search of information and/or pictures of the french car Farman? My grandfather used to own one in the late 30´.
I have searched for information about Farman the last 20 years. Do you know where I can find any kind of info, pictures or perhaps parts to a Farman. Hopefully me search one day will give me enough info to write a book about this unique car. Thank you in advance!!!
Guest BruceW
Found the following brief bit of info at the following URL:
http://translate.google.com/translate_c?hl=en&u=http://www.carlover.com/yearframe.asp%3Fyear%3D1924%26carnumber%3D5048&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dfarman%2Bautomobile%26hl%3Den
The Farman brothers felt their aircraft engineering background would give them an advantage in designing automobiles. They built luxury cars that were too expensive and could not compete with the majors. In 1932, they went back to building aircraft only.
At 5,300 lbs., their cars were not light-weights. Their advertisement stated, "A motor car rolls but a Farman glides."
There is also a couple of illustrations of Farman cars at the URL.
Not much but hope this helps... Guest
the chassis most people associate with the brothers Farman was the AB6 which was current through the '20s. This fast, powerful car had a 6.6 liter overhead cam aluminum block with cast iron liners with a bore and stroke of 100x140, 4 speed close ratio box and a useful 3.25to 1 rear axle ratio, since they were equipped with an anti-roll bar they had excellent road holding and would beat almost anything but a blown Bentley.
