Mudbone
Does anyone know what the camshaft profile differences are between the 1953 through 1956 cams? There is only one source for new camshafts that I could find. I called them today and they said they have one cam for all 322’s. Mud
MrEarl
There were differences between all years with the '56 being the "hottest" and giving more power. In 55 the exhaust cam lift was increased from the '54 making the valve lift change from .350 to .378. They started using a cast iron camshaft in '56 and again had modifications in the intake and exhaust valve opening earlier and later. Didn't answer your question I know, but just wanted to advise that there were indeed differences. I would tell you to just start looking for a good '56 engine but I'm looking for one and don't want the the competition so won't.
Bhigdog
Also different types of steel with some shafts being incompatable with different year lifters. Kind of moot since none of the lifter or cam shaft suppliers know or care..............Bob
Leif Holmberg
Also remember that there are 2 different camshaft in 1956,one for Special 40 models CT and another for 50,60,70 models. You can see the differens that Special camshaft have 2 tracks on one side of the shaft.Special number is 0,519-1171344 and 50,60,70 0,519-1171343. Leif in Sweden.I have also heard that you can use 364 camshaft if you have the shaft bearings grinded as 322 if you want the engine a little bit "hotter". Mudbone
I called another supplier and they said they could not get the cam profile for me. (Or don’t want to) That means it must be made in China. Mud

old-tank
Hey MudI thought you were going to get the original cam and lifters rebuilt. Anyhow all of the available cams are a compromise...like the pistons...and..Anyhow again, a local chapter member had a cam for his 54 322 built by Schneider Cams...might be someone to talk to.Willie

I just e-mailed Schneider Cams to see if they can get one. (I just remembered I have a full race solid lifter camshaft and lifters that was made by Schneider up in the attic. I bought it at a swap meet about 25 years ago) Also I was looking at Egge parts book and they are the only ones that list different piston part numbers for each year and model. I find that very odd that if they went through the trouble of making so many different pistons they wouldn’t get it right. I think I will give them a call and see if they actually are different. Mudbone
I am still waiting for a response from Schneider. In the meantime I went up in the attic and dug out this old Schneider racing cam I had purchased back in the 70’s. It is a solid lifter cam with lifters, springs with aluminum retainers. The drive end is stamped 21F #00567. The other end is stamped J4. I did not find any paperwork with it. When I bought it at the flee Market he said it was for a 55-56 322. I have no use for it. So it is for sale. Mud
old-tank
MudBefore you let it go measure the lobes and compare to your used stock one. It looks nothing like the stock ones I have (the lobes are flatter indicating more duration).Maybe when you hear from Schneider, they may be interested in a trade.Willie
Mudbone
I ordered pistons from EGGE and a new cam and lifters from Schneider. I will report when I get them. Mud
Gene Brink
Crane Cams custom grinds for nailheads. No specs on their website but this number is listed to call for details. They might have stock specs. (866) 388-5120. Also believe there were changes (slight) to heads each year. Good luck.
