I have a '30 Chrysler CJ with its original DRT-08 brass bowl carb. Had it rebuilt by Jeff Dreibus The Old Carb Doctor in NC. He did a great job, but in the end, I switched to the BB1 Carter Carb. I believe it came out in '31 for the Plymouth. Car runs MUCH better with the BB1 if you're not to picky about originality. Jim

I had the opposite happen. I had a BB1 on my '31 Dodge, but I could not get it to not dump fuel everywhere. I switched to an original DRT-08 and it is smooth running and no gas dumping.

DRT-08 was used on different makes and models. The 31 Plymouth used a

DRT-08 207s . The intake was bigger than others and had the short stubby pump on the side.

Excellent point, and different kits are used on different versions. Prior to ordering a kit, one should positively identify which model of the DRT-08 one has.

Thanks for all the info on the Carter DRT-08 .I purchased a kit from the Carburetorshop but no float which is my main problem. Was told the only way to get a new float was to buy a rebuilt carburetor at a cost of 1200.00 to 1500.00 I said that I would junk the car before I paid that much. I have a rebuilt Carter BB1 which I may install. Regards Shadrach

I can send you a float if that is all you need. I believe that they are all the same floats.

Actually, there are about 8 different floats used in the various brass bowl Carter carbs. The areas to inspect closely would be the height of the float pontoon, and the height of the center of the float hanger to the top of the float. I seem to remember one of the floats has a different distance from one side of the hanger support to the other.

The most common of the brass bowl floats is the one used on the late 1929~1931 Chevrolet (RJH-08 136s and 150s).

Some good pictures and measurement, and hopefully you guys can match one up.

I have a 31 Plymouth PA with a Carter DRT-08. ;)

Car ran fine for about 40 miles accumulated in 4 or 5 short trips. It stalled as I was putting it back in the garage.

Now it will start and idle but quits immediately if the throttle is pushed.

Have removed and cleaned the carburetor. This included removing all jets and blowing out the passage ways with carb cleaner.

After reassembly there was no change.

Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, options.

We have very little driving time left here in Maine and I would like to get it running again as soon as possible.

Thanks.

Dale
