after all kinds of electrical problems I am now looking for a trunk lock. Had to pop that one to get in during the problems. 1990 reatta. where might I find one without getting robbed or beaten up with the price?

What part(s) did you break?

Lock kit should be available at your FLAPS.

Solenoid switch and latch would be available from someone on the forum.

If you didn't break your lock totally, you may be able to transfer the cylinder so you can still use your old key.

My trunk lock has been completely broken since I bought my 90 coupe last year. My only way into the trunk has been the button in the glove box. When I first bought the car my trunk did not open with the button. I would hear the trunk release mechanism working (clicking) but trunk remained closed. Only way I had in was with another person (my son) pulling up on the trunk lid while I press the button. While looking in from the door inside the car to the trunk I saw that the trunk lock was only latching onto the corner of the lock bar attached to the trunk wall. This was stopping the trunk lid from opening. To solve this I loosened up the lock bar nuts, then put shimes in between the trunk wall and the lock bar which pulled the bar out about 3/8ths of an inch or more. I tightened down the nuts and now the trunk lid opens like it should all the time....don't need my son anymore...LOL...For the future, would I be able to get a complete lock assembly for the trunk that would be reasonable priced? It sounds like you may have two problems now........ the latch mechanism should have a spring that pops the trunk up about 1/2 inch when the solenoid unlock.... maybe someone can post or direct you to a link with this problem.

The rear lock......... The lock and electrical switch are seperate parts, if just your switch is bad, that is good news so you will not need to have a replacement lock redone to match your door keys. If you need both, then you will want to get the lock redone before installing it.

Everyone should also take note of the two rubber bumpers at the top corners of the deck lid. If you haven't already, screw those out until you can see two threads.

It will make your trunk line up correctly with the rest of the car, and give a satisfying "thump" when you release it.

You will have to slam it a bit more to make it latch, but it's the way it's made to work.

Barney, my trunk opens about a 1/4 inch using the glove box button... It does open though.

The second thing is the lock. Broken off - hopefully this pic is clear enough to see what I mean. Is if fixable? lock005.jpg

Will the key still go into the grey casting?

Will it turn if it goes into the casting?

If the answer is Yes to both the above, I have a repair Kit that has the part to make it look like new. It takes about an hour because you must remove the lock and that entails removing the rear light to get to the screws.
