First up is a hubcap. Frazer maybe? Fiat? Anybody know? Second is a "V" emblem. It appears to be made of brass or something similar. The word "Dirilyte" is stamped on the back.

Haha! Thanks John. I overlooked the most obvious car maker that started with "F"! I've never seen a hubcap like this so I just automatically assumed it was some obscure make. Thanks for the quick response. OK, that's taken care of. Anybody know what the emblem is? I bet it's from a refrigerator or something!:D That would be just my luck.

The "gold" Vee is an early 1950s Cadillac hood or trunk lid ornament. Dirilyte is a type metal alloy containing bronze that gives it a gold appearance. Probably the reason so many people claimed Cadillac hood, fender, and trunk ornaments were real gold plated. Not!

Wow, thanks Jim! It never ceases to amaze me what I learn on this forum. I can see why people tried to say it was gold plated. It is quite heavy compared to a chrome piece of the same size. Any tips on shining it up? My normal methods didn't even scratch the surface of the tarnish. Brasso polish maybe? Thanks again for adding to my knowledge bank.

Brasso will probably work, or you might try that old standby the gun wadding metal polish we used in the Marine Corps to keep all our brass belt buckles, emblems, and buttons nice and bright. The company that produced the alloy more or less went out of business in 1986 however if you google the Dirilyte name and find they still sell a polish for that material. You'll also be shocked to find their main business was manufacturing flatware of the alloy. It was quite expensive yet quite popular because of it's gold appearance. You can find examples of the flatware on Ebay.
