Removing my tailgate?

Ok on the 1957 mercury I’m about to remove the tailgate. Now on the old Cherokee I damn near took off a finger so I figure I’ll ask for a few pointers before just diving in head first. On the gate there are two Frearson [reed and prince] bolts that hold the gate and the twister spring to the gate. Now it looks like there are two bolts that hold the gate to the car, but that’s about it. I’m trying to find the Frearson, but the local auto parts store says they don’t have it and the same with sears. I’m hoping I just got the lazy folks today, but you never know. I hope to have the gate SAFELY off and at media blasters by Friday. Any safety tips are greatly welcome. <O:p</O:p
