Oil bath air cleaner question

I had this post ready to go and lost it in cyber space. Hope this is not a double post.

I have a '41 with dual carbs.

Is there a way to get rid of the oil bath and keep the cleaner using some other material to filter the intake air? I am just trying to get away from the mess of cleaning the filter. I may have to live with it as I don't plan to change the housing part of the cleaner.

Any suggestions will help.

Thanks in advance. Your guys are great:)

Also curious about what other parts of the country (world) are paying today for gas.

I just paid $4.07 per gallon in Central Calif.

I agree with Mark.

NZ$2.09 per litre in Christchurch, NZ. I'm no mathmatician, so don't ask me to work out what that is, but NZ$1.00 is worth 83 cents right now.

Cheers

Grant

3.78 Litre = 1 US Gallon

So that is US6.56 per US gallon

i did not have the proper element for the oil bath filter and decided to try to get a paper filter to work. i made a couple of "disks" to center the new filter and also allow proper air flow. drove the car all last summer and worked very well. unfortunately i do not have any pics of this and the car is in winter storage at this time.

Thanks for the idea.:)

Nice Buick! When I was 5 years old my family had one like it in Black.

That's the car that started my love affair with '41 Buicks:D

As of 2/18/12 Gas is $3.03 in the "mountains" and $ 2.89/ gal in Denver.

A good Fram paper filter should not be hard to rig up inside your filter.

Or.... you could do what we did when we raced or old '52 Plymouth back in the '50's.

We filled the old oil bath air cleaner with Naptha (from the local dry cleaners) just before the race. The first turn got real exciting when it slopped over into the carb. Now they use Nox...
